Dow Jones Futures 12/15/08 - Stock Market

The Dow Jones and Stock Market Futures are pointed higher this morning, 12/15/08, as we have one more busy week ahead before things start to calm down for Holiday's. This week we have Goldman Sachs ( GS ) earnings as well as Morgan Stanley ( MS ). We also have a interest rate cut coming from the FOMC on Tuesday. All eyes continue to be on what happens with the auto bailout. The White House appears to be taking their good old time.

Jim Cramer Mad Money TLAB, CIEN, SWKS

Watch the following stocks this week as Jim Cramer mentioned them on the Speculation Friday segment of Mad Money CNBC. These stocks will be up today, 12/15/08, given the Cramer effect as well as the fact that they really have been beaten down in the technology sector. I will have analysis on all three of them this week.

Dow Jones Analysis 12/15/08 - Stock Market

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 12/14/08, 12/15/08

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - December 15, 2008

Resistance Levels: 8750, 9000, 9026.41

Support Levels: 8500, 8350, 8150

http://stockcharts.com - Chart

The Dow Jones continues to trade over 8500 despite attempted sell offs, very bullish! The Dow also continues to trade over the 10 day moving average. We hit 8150 in pre market futures and went up from there...this has been solid support for the Dow Jones. We now have support at 8500, 8350, and 8150 in which 8150 is very solid. 8150 has held four times in the past two weeks. It seems the Dow Jones is forming a nice base in the mid 8000's. Resistance: There are two strong resistance points, the 50 day moving average ( Red Line ) and 9000. If we can close over the 50 day moving average I think the Dow can break out of this range and start a new uptrend in a bear market in which 9650 could be tested.

Nasdaq Analysis 12/15/08 - December 15, 2008

The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( NAS ) for 12/14/08 - 12/15/08

Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - December 15, 2008

Resistance Levels: 1575, 1603, 1675

Support Levels: 1530, 1500

http://stockcharts.com - Chart

The Nasdaq closed over 1500 for the sixth straight session...reversing from the lows to close back over the 1530 level. 1530 has been last weeks low with the exception of Thursday's late day sell off. The Nasdaq now has solid support at the 1500 level as the 10 day moving average is 1503. I continue to buy pullbacks at or below the 10 day moving average and sell closer to the 50 day moving average until the trend changes.
Resistance: The Nasdaq has been having trouble between the 1575 - 1603 area. If the Nasdaq can close over this area, next stop would be the 1670-1700 resistance level. Closing over the 1603 level would also cause more shorts to cover since the Nasdaq would be closing over the 50 day moving average, 1st time since August. I'm Bullish in the Nasdaq! Dow Jones Close 12/12/08 - Stock Market Closing Prices

Stock Market Closing Prices - 12/12/08

Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) Close - 8629.68 Up 63.96
Nasdaq Stock Market Close - 1540.72 Up 32.84
S&P 500 Close - 879.74 Up 6.15

Libor Rates - 12/12/08

1 Month - 1.04%
3 Month - 1.921%

Commodities Closing Prices - 12/12/08

Gold - 820.50
Oil - 46.69
Natural Gas - 5.56

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at on 8629 12/12/08, as we got horrible auto bailout news last night which pushed the stock market futures down in a big way this morning. The Dow Jones bounced off of 8150 in pre market trading this morning and it will all up hill from there. This is the second straight Friday where the stock market has gone up on bad news, a very positive sign. The Nasdaq was the strongest market today as Tech Stocks rallied the most. I love the Nasaq over 1500 and the Dow Jones over 8500 so as long as they stay over those two levels, they will be fine. The bailout is still not a done deal and the White House has yet to act. Many think the money will come from the TARP program. Next week will be a busy week! We have the Fed Meeting as well as Goldman Sachs ( GS ) earnings December 16th. I will have full technical analysis of the markets over the weekend Right Here.

Hogan Bottom 12/12/08 - Art Hogan CNBC

Art Hogan came on CNBC 12/12/08 and gave some comments on his opinion on the stock market right now. Art Hogan is famous for the " Hogan Bottom " which he cam on CNBC October 10th and called the bottom. It has only been violated one day in which we closed above it. Click Here for previous Art Hogan comments.

When you look at what has happened today, there are two stories, the Madoff story and the auto bailout story. The best possible scenario would be to use the tarp funds...the timing is key, would like to see White House come out today and say they will be doing something. You don't want to put a band aid on this and leave it for the next administration.

I think you remain defensive in this market, buy health care, consumer staples like Clorox ( CLX ) that will help you ride out the next few quarters which are going to be ugly.

General Motors GM - Ford F - 12/12/08 - Stock Report

Today, December 12, 2008, General Motors ( GM ) and Ford ( F ) stocks are hurting as the auto bailout failed in the Senate last night. As you can see below, both stocks are under extreme pressure as well as the Stock Market Futures. We should hear soon from the White House whether or not they will use TARP money to hold these companies ( along with Chrysler ) over for the next few months or face bankruptcy. Bankruptcy would cause over 2 million people to lose their jobs adding pressure to the unemployment in America. Most think President Bush will not let this happen. Stay Tuned......

Stock Quotes 12/12/08

Ford ( F ) Pre Market - $2.53
General Motors ( GM ) Pre Market - $3.18
Ford ( F ) Open - $2.73
General Motors ( GM ) Open - $3.45
Ford ( F ) Close - $3.03
General Motors ( GM ) Close - $3.91
