Dow Jones Analysis 2/18/09 Stock Market Analysis

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 2/18/09

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - February 18, 2009

Resistance Levels: 7774, 8000

Support Levels: 7500, 7449

The Dow Jones has broke below the Hogan Bottom today and is testing a MAJOR support level of 7449-7500. If these levels do not hold on a closing basis, I think over time, the Dow could test 6800-7000. A break down like this would be devastating for the Stock Markets here and around the world. It would also be a great buying opportunity while everyone panics. I will not be getting bullish on the Dow Jones until we close back over 8000. The 7449 low was put in on November 21, when it was leaked that Timothy Geithner will become the Treasury Secretary....and he has failed so far. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Nasdaq Analysis 2/18/09 February 18, 2009

Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - February 18, 2009

Resistance Levels: 1500, 1535

Support Levels: 1450, 1434, 1400

The Nasdaq gapped below both the 10 & 50 day moving averages and took out the Feb 2nd low of 1476 to close at 1470 today. I now expect the Nasdaq to test the next support range which is between 1434-1450. If this range does not hold, look for 1400 to be tested. Every time the Nasdaq has reached the 1400's lately it has bounced back to 1600. If you like technology, this is a great area to start accumulating. You can buy QQQQ or QLD which is twice the move of QQQQ.Resistance on the Nasdaq is now at 1500. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

3 Month - 1.246%

Commodities Closing Prices - 2/17/09

Gold - 970.10
Oil - 34.93
Natural Gas - 4.19

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7552 on 2/17/09, as the stock market dropped big today on fears over the US Banks, fears of automaker bankruptcies, Japan's worsening recession, and several key technical break downs in the market. The Dow Jones Futures started the day down 200 points and right after the stock market opened, we got a huge plunge in all the major averages. The Stock Market pretty much flat-lined after this downfall. We had a few rally attempts that were met with selling but overall we traded in a narrow range through out the day. Barack Obama signed the Stimulus Package and in the final hour we had another upside reversal attempt ( Which Failed ). Key technical breakdowns were the Dow breaking the Hogan Bottom again at 7773, the S&P 500 breaking 800, and the Nasdaq breaking 1476. Tomorrow could be another ugly day as we find out the details of the General Motors and Chrysler reports. President Obama will also speak tomorrow morning on a housing plan at 10:15am Est.

I will have full technical analysis tonight - Right Here

Stock Market 2/17/09 February 17, 2009

Today, 2/17/09, the Stock Market Futures are tanking as we have the markets breaking fresh yearly lows due to General Motors ( GM ) needing more money and the Japan Recession Deepening. We are also breaking down technically as the Dow will open around 7650 and the S&P 500 around 800-804 support.

The Dow Jones has support around 7500 but if the 7449 low is broken, things could deteriorate quickly. People calling for Dow Jones 6000's could get their wish in the next few weeks.

We all know where this started! It started last week with Timothy Geithner's failed bank rescue plan where we got a rough draft versus a blue print for actual action. Tomorrow at 10:15am Est President Obama and Timothy Geithner will talk about a plan to stem foreclosures in the housing market. This could give stocks a temporary bounce. Gold is breaking out to the upside, $965 per ounce.

It could be a rocky day....watch Dow Jones at 7500 and S&P 500 at 800....the end of the day will be important. Who knows, we could end the day in positive territory, it has happened before!

Update: 10:30am Est - Dow Jones 7582, bouncing off lows -- S&P 500 794, bouncing off lows as well -- Nasdaq 1479, bouncing off lows

Today, February 17, 2009, General Motors ( GM ) and Ford ( F ) stocks are both taking a nose dive along with the stock market. Futures are down significantly in pre market trading.
