This morning, 1/29/09, the stock market futures are lower as we give back some gains from the past few days. The house passed the stimulus bill last night but did not get support from Republicans. Below are some stocks that will be active in the stock market today. Be sure to check out the latest technical analysis.

Dryships ( DRYS ) - $9.40 Down 23.08% - DryShips in breach of some loan covenants -DryShips ( DRYS ) said two of its banks notified the Greek dry bulk carrier that it is in breach of certain financial covenants and it is currently in discussions with its lenders for waivers and amendments to loan covenants. Oppenheimer also downgraded Drys this morning to underperform from perform. Technically, DRYS is dangerous back under $10 and would be cautious. Keep an eye on $9.00 and $8.80, if these are taken out it could get ugly!
Sepracor ( SEPR ) - $15.45 Up 13.35% - Sepracor swings to 4th-quarter profit on lower costs, tops Wall Street forecasts.
Ford ( F ) - $2.01 Down 0.99% - Ford reported a loss of $1.37 in earnings, Revenue 29.2 billion, has roughly 13 billion in cash since they only burned through just over 5 billion for the quarter. During the 3rd quarter, Ford burned through over 7 billion in cash so this is a nice improvement but was expected. Ford says it still doesn't need the bridge loan from the Government.

Stock Alert 12/30/08 - NFP National Financial Partners
This afternoon, December 30th, 2008, I am noticing National Financial Partners ( NFP ) stock breaking out to the upside. This stock has been inching up all day and finally the volume is hitting around 1:25pm. NFP stock went from 2.50 to 2.90 in about 5 minutes.
National Financial Partners ( NFP ) is back where it started the day yesterday so I guess you can make the case it is NOT breaking out. This is a beaten down financial stock which has resistance around the $3 level so I will continue to monitor this one.

Satyam Computer ( SAY ) - up 42% to $8.10 - This Indian company cancelled their plans to buy a few firms. Satyam, India's No. 4 software services exporter, bowed to investor outrage and cancelled the plans to buy two builders just 12 hours after the deals were announced.
Dynavax ( DVAX ) - Up 200% to .79% - GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) signed a partnership to develop treatments for immuno-inflammatory diseases with Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX), which could eventually reap worth more than $800 million including all options.
Dynavax, a Berkeley, Calif., biopharmaceutical company, will get an initial payment of $10 million from the British drug maker. Dynavax will conduct research and early clinical development in up to four programs and could get total milestone payments of about $200 million per program.

Dynavax, a Berkeley, Calif., biopharmaceutical company, will get an initial payment of $10 million from the British drug maker. Dynavax will conduct research and early clinical development in up to four programs and could get total milestone payments of about $200 million per program.

DryShips DRYS Stock up 13% 12/09/08 - Pre Market
Today, 12/9/08, DryShips ( DRYS ) is one of leading stock gainers in pre market trading. DryShips is up 13% in early trading after going up 50% yesterday.
There really isn't any news with this stock as the sector is just extremely oversold and when you have these big bear market rallies, the most beaten down sectors tend to get the biggest bounces.
Dryships has hit my $8 target today in pre market and if Drys can remain strong, it could potentially see $10-$12.50 which are the next two resistance points. I would be cautious as Baltic Shipping Rates are still at rock bottom. This could be only a short squeeze! The true test is if the overall stock market starts to roll over, you see these bulk shipping stocks ( DRYS, DSX, EXM ) staying semi strong rather then totally rolling over.
