The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9135 on 8/17/09, as the stock market fell big after Asian markets tanked overnight. The Dow Jones Futures were only down 20 Sunday evening but when we woke up this morning, they were down nearly 200 at one point. The stock market tried to bounce between 2pm - 3pm but was short lived. Technology and Emerging Market stocks were hit the hardest. Late in the day shares of Apple Inc. (AAPL) broke down through $160. When you see weakness in a strong stock like Apple, you have to be concerned. On the flip side of that, shares of Citigroup, Inc. (C) continue to show strength despite the big sell off.

While the Apple sell off is cause for concern, I will not be worried until the Dow Jones closes below support at 9000. This would set up a retest of the 50 day moving average located just under 8800. If the 50 day doesn't hold, we could be headed back down to the 200 day moving average. If the Dow can stay above 9000 on a closing basis, we could easily go right back to 9400 again. Biel.pk has been one of the hottest penny stocks lately. Biel continues the powerful stairstep pattern with resistance located at $0.083 and $0.095. If BIEL is able to start a new break out and close over $0.095, you could easily see another 20-50% gain. On the downside, I would avoid the stock if it closes two straight days below the 10 day moving average. Stocks to Watch - 8/17/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS stock took another hit Friday but managed to remain above the support level of $70. If FAS breaks $70 , I will buy FAZ for a trade. A close above $72.53 would also be bullish for FAS. These will be this prices I will be watching as we go into next week. Check out my FAZ/FAS Technical Analysis

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock was upgraded by Bank of America on Friday. Citi opened pre market at $4.20 but sold off with the stock market all the way down to $3.92. Right after 11am EST, Citigroup rallied back to $4.06. This action was very bullish to me and I continue to hold my shares. I am watching $4.24 & $4.48 which are key resistance levels going forward. I will be adding to my position when Citigroup stock breaks through each of those resistance levels. Check out my Citigroup Technical Analysis

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation held up very strong despite the sell off on Friday. In the final two hours, BAC stock broke through $17.35. I continue to watch the key resistance level of $17.93 for next week. Check out my Bank of America Technical Analysis


American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - Looking to buy AIG on a break above $25 - Check out my AIG Technical Analysis


Apple Inc. (AAPL) - Apple stock was subject to a correction on Friday but was bought heavily in the $165's. The next support zone to watch is $162-$163. A close below this level would be bearish.


Palm, Inc. (PALM) - Palm stock closed above $14 on Friday which is bullish. The next major resistance level I see is around $14.75. Pullbacks under $13 should be bought.


Freddie Mac (FRE) - Waiting for FRE to break back above $1.50 and I will be buying


Fannie Mae (FNM) - Waiting for FNM to break back above $1.07 and I will be buying

AIG is pulling back to a major support level between $23-$24. The 10 day moving average is located at $22.71 but rising every day. I will be waiting for AIG to break back above $25 before I buy the stock and will add to my position when AIG breaks $26.50.

When AIG breaks out and closes above $30, I think it could atleast run to $35. If AIG closes below $21.30, I will be avoiding the stock altogether. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) stock continues the powerful uptrend that started with the stock market bottom in March 2009. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average have been a great area to buy with corrections to the 50 day moving average being an even stronger buy. BAC broke through the $17.35 resistance on Friday so I will be watching the next major resistance level next week which is located at $17.93. Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) stock has closed over $4 for two consecutive trading sessions which is very bullish. Citi has major resistance in the $4.40's where the 200 day moving average is located as well as the April and May 2009 highs of $4.48 & $4.41. There was a bad print on Friday of $4.53 which went through but was never corrected. The high was only around $4.17.

I own a small position in Citigroup right now, will add more if the stock retests the 10 day moving average ( $3.74 ) or breaks up through $4.24 as well as $4.48. Once Citigroup moves up and closes over $5, you will also see a huge pop in price

Ford stock traded below the 10 day moving average all last week. This is something to watch closely as it is a sign of technical weakness. I am watching $7.50, a close below $7.50 would set up a correction back below $7 which would be a buying opportunity at the 50 day moving average. GE stock has made a huge run after bottoming out at $10.50 but closed below the 10 day moving average on Friday. This could set up a retest of the 200 day moving average which I'd be a strong buyer of. Anything under $13 at this point is a strong buy. On the upside, resistance is clearly in the mid to high $14's so a close above $15 would be very bullish and i'd be a buyer.

FAS has been very strong lately after bottoming out at $35.10 and closing back over the 10 day moving average. The 10 day moving average hasn't failed on a closing basis during this entire run. Over the past two trading sessions, FAS has been able to hold $70 so when the stock trades down below $71, I am buying with a tight stop at $69.99. I have been then selling rebounds above $73. If FAS does break $70, I will buy the FAZ stock and hold overnight if FAS closes below $70. If FAS closes above $75, I think you could see a retest of $79. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

HTDS stock has been on fire lately as the company continues to put out press releases. Resistance will be located at Friday's high of $0.022 as well as $0.035 going all the way back to 2005. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average ( blue line on the chart ) have been bought heavily and will be a good buy if your are trading HTDS. Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) has been making some false breakouts recently but we are starting to see a new uptrend forming. CTIC continues to close back over the 10 and 50 day moving which is bullish. I am watching a key resistance level of $1.73 which was the July 2009 high. If CTIC can close above $1.73, I think it could really rip higher. I will probably jump into CTIC again when the stock breaks up through last weeks high of $1.68 for a trade. Investors and traders are anticipating the FDA to accept the Pixitrone application on Aug 24th which would be very positive for the stock.
