Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones gapped and closed below the 10 day moving average on Monday, a bearish signal for the short term but an overdue correction that is needed for the long term. 9000 has been a solid support level and while I am cautious with my trading because of Monday's move, as long as the Dow can keep closing over 9000, I am remain bullish. If the Dow Jones closes below 9000, I will become very concerned. I would then look for the 50 day moving average to be retested. On the upside, rallies back to the 10 day moving average will hit resistance as well as the 9400's. A close above 9438 at any time will start another huge rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9321 on 8/14/09, as the stock market plunged on a worse then expected Michigan Sentiment number. The Dow Jones Futures opened pre market flat but after the Michigan Sentiment figure was released, the stock market tanked. The Dow Jones is now back at the 10 day moving average which raises the warning flag to me. As soon as the Dow Jones can stay above the 10 day moving average and hold it, I will buy more stocks. Until then, I will be cautious in my daily trading and will not start any new long positions ( with the exception to Citigroup if it breaks $4.24 ). Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates 8/14/09 BDI

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. When Bulk Shipping Rates are as low as they have been lately, it signifies that the world economy has come to a screeching halt

Citigroup ( C ) Stock Upgraded to Buy - 8/14/09

August 14, 2009 - Shares of Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) are spiking above $4.20 in pre market this morning after Bank of America/Merrill is upgrading shares from Underperform to Buy.


Citigroup shares have been on fire lately due to improving stock market conditions as well as huge index buying. There is major resistance located in the $4.40's with the 200 day moving average located at $4.49. A close over the 200 day moving average would be big and a run toward $5 would occur.


If Citigroup closes over $5, I believe you would see additional heavy buying as Mutual Funds get back in due to the stock being over $5 again. Some funds even wait until $5.50-$6.


Keep an eye on this situation!

It seems as though everyone is watching Libor rates these days. Today's Libor Rates for 8/14/09, are: 1 Month Libor Rate - 0.273% & 3 Month Libor Rate - 0.429%. The overnight Libor rate is 0.234%. As you can see, Libor Rates have changed today, August 14, 2009. The 1 month libor stayed the same, the 3 month libor dropped, and the overnight libor rate went higher.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones keeps trucking along after snapping back over the 10 day moving average Wednesday. A morning sell off on Thursday back to the 10 day moving average was bought heavily and we ended up closing positive. I am now watching 9438 as a sign of a new break out. If the Dow Jones closes over 9438, I want to add to my long positions while buying any pullback to the 10 day moving average. I am now putting a stop order at 9200 which was near the low on Tuesday and Wednesday. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stocks to Watch - 8/14/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS was trading back over $72.53 Thursday which is a very bullish sign. I will be buying pullbacks under $72.53 with a stop order at $70. If FAS does break under $70, I will be buying the FAZ stock for a trade. Resistance for FAS is all the way up at $79.36 right now.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - I continue to watch shares of AIG. I will be buying AIG again when it breaks up through $26.50. I will also take a shot if we see a sell off back to $24.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - As of Thursday, I am back in Citigroup with the anticipation that it will close over $4.00 on Thursday. I will also add more when the C closes over $4.50. If Citigroup breaks back below $4, I will get out. Check out my Citigroup technical analysis

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation was up big Thursday after John Paulson announced a big stake in the company. BAC struggled in the high $16's on this news and the stock continues to have major resistance at $17.35 & $17.93. A break back above $17 would be very bullish and I will be a buyer with a tight stop at $16.87. Check out my BAC technical analysis

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - The baltic dry index finally rose on Thursday and Drys broke above $6.50. I took a long position with a tight stop at $6.26. I will add to my position on a break above $7.10.

ACADIA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ACAD) - ACAD stock exploded higher Thursday as we could receive late stage results of their Parkinson's drug at any moment. Keep ACAD on your watchlists.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) - Waiting for a close back over $13.16 to get long this stock.

Regional Bank Stocks: The regional banks stocks were up nicely on Thursday as Jim Cramer came on CNBC in the morning and stated that he may be wrong on his bearish stance on Regions Financial Corp. (RF). John Paulson recently took a new position in the bank as well as Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB). Also up on the news was Huntington Bancshares Inc. (HBAN).
