The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8017 on 4/28/09, as the stock market was down in the morning and up in the afternoon before going back to the even line just after 3pm. The Dow Jones Futures were down around 100 points this morning after the Wall Street Journal reported that Bank of America ( BAC ) and Citigroup ( C ) might need to raise more capital after the results of the stress test are released next week. There were also more swine flu scares as well.

For the second straight day, stocks rebounded right at the open after the futures were down big. This goes to show you how strong the stock market really is. Financial Bull ( FAS ) stock hit $7.00 support in pre market and never looked back. FAS ended up making a high of 7.88 in the afternoon hours.

In the pharmaceutical sector, shares of Dendreon ( DNDN ) were halted after plunging before the release of key data regarding their cancer drug, Provenge. The news looks good but that doesn't explain the huge down move before the stock was halted. It is likely shares on Dendreon ( DNDN ) will open up after the companies conference call at 5:30pm EST. The Nasdaq has come out and said all trades will stand today.

As far as the swine flu stocks go, Novavax ( NVAX ) was very strong today going into the close, looks like it could gap up at the open tomorrow.

Dendreon DNDN Stock Halted 4/28/09 April 28, 2009

Dendreon ( DNDN ) stock was just halted after completely tanking. I think there was either a leak or a trading glitch but I'm pretty sure all trades will be cancelled one minute prior to the trading halt

Novavax NVAX Stock 4/28/09 April 28 2009

The following is a Novavax Inc ( NVAX ) stock technical analysis for April 28, 2009

Novavax Inc. Support & Resistance Levels - 4/28/09

Resistance Levels: $3.15, $3.50, $3.88, $4.35-$4.38

Support Levels: $2.50, $1.93

As you probably know, Novavax ( NVAX ) stock is rising due to the swine flu outbreak. From a technical analysis point of view, NVAX has solid support at the $2.50 level. NVAX closed just above this level on Monday and is now rising back near $3 in pre market trading. There is some nice resistance between $3-$3.15 but then nothing until around $3.30 and then $3.50. If the $3.88 high from Monday is broken, I think NVAX could probably trade up to $4.33-$4.38 area which is a major resistance level. You have big funds that have been trapped in this stock for years waiting to unload in the $4's. It would take a huge outbreak in the swine flu or an actual announcement on a drug to get through this level. Three years ago NVAX was trading at $8 on avian bird flu fears. A close below $2.50 would most likely take NVAX stock back to the 200 day moving average. Come Join the NVAX discussion.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones failed to break up through the downtrend line that extends back to November of 2008. The Dow did manage to stay above 8000, a key support level. I believe the next break out will occur when the Dow breaks over this downtrend line and holds it. On the downside, 7750 is a major support level which must hold from here on out. A close below 7750 could be the start of a new leg down or just a retest of the lows

Stocks to Watch - 4/28/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Swine Flu Stocks: The swine flu stocks blasted off on Monday as fears of the flu spreading caused Wall Street to sell off. I will be watching the top swine flu stocks in early trading on Tuesday.

Novavax, Inc. ( NVAX ) - NVAX was trading between $3.26 & $3.88 in the morning but then started the breakdown. After NVAX hit $2.58 it bounced to about $3.04 and then failed again. If NVAX can get back above $3.10 you could see a retest of $3.30-$3.50. If the high of $3.88 is taken out I think NVAX could run into the low $4's. This is what I will be watching for Tuesday. What's your opinion?
