The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8848 on 7/20/09, as the stock market exploded higher after it was announced that CIT Group Inc. ( CIT ) was receiving financing. The Dow Jones Futures started the day higher but the stock market really started to surge right after 3pm today. On the S&P 500, 930-950 has been the major resistance zone which we broke late in the day and closed over which is a new high for 2009. We could be setting up for a retest of 1000 on the S&P and 9000 on the Dow Jones. Given the huge snap back rally we've seen over the past week, i'd be a seller if the S&P goes above 1000. What is a little concerning is the fact that both Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) & Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) were down big today. Meanwhile, shares of Human Genome Sciences Inc. (HGSI) were up huge on Lupus data that was released.

The hottest sector today was Basic Materials which is up over 10% in the past five trading days. Stocks such as China Shen Zhou Mining & Resources, Inc. (SHZ) - Pacific Ethanol, Inc. (PEIX) -
Valhi Inc. (VHI) - US Gold Corporation (UXG) - Coeur d`Alene Mines Corporation (CDE) - United States Steel Corp. (X) - Silver Wheaton Corp. (SLW). Check out some of the events I will be watching for Tuesday.

BENLYSTA (belimumab) met its primary efficacy endpoint by achieving a statistically significant improvement in patient response rate versus placebo in BLISS-52 -

- First drug for lupus to reach this advanced stage of clinical development and achieve positive results, in the largest randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial ever completed in SLE patients

ROCKVILLE, Maryland, and LONDON, UK – July 20, 2009 – Human Genome Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: HGSI) and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) today announced that BENLYSTA™ (belimumab, formerly LymphoStat-B®) met the primary endpoint in BLISS-52, the first of two pivotal Phase 3 trials in patients with serologically active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In the placebo-controlled BLISS-52 study, the results showed that belimumab plus standard of care achieved a clinically and statistically significant improvement in patient response rate at Week 52, compared with standard of care alone. Study results also showed that belimumab was generally well tolerated, with adverse event rates comparable between belimumab and placebo treatment groups.

“The BLISS-52 results demonstrated that BENLYSTA has the potential to become the first new approved drug in decades for people living with systemic lupus,” said H. The Dow Jones closed up for the 5th straight day as the monster snap back rally continues. Next week is the busiest week for earnings for the season so expect there to be a lot of volatility. I am looking to buy pullbacks to 8500 as well as down to 8300. I also realize that if the Dow Jones closes over 8800, there could be a sharp move for a retest of 9000.A close back below 8250 at any time would be bearish and the sellers will come back once again. Stocks to Watch - 7/20/09 - Stock Market Ideas

CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT) - Reuters is reporting that CIT Group is in talks with Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan for 2-3 Billion in Short Term Financing. This is causing CIT stock to surge to around $0.90 per share. CIT Stock Resistance Levels: $1.08, $1.37, $1.50, $1.67, $1.77

MOTORS LIQUIDATION (MTLQQ.PK) - Huge Reversal off the early trading lows on Friday sparked a surge from $0.39 to $0.47. $0.50 is the major resistance level to watch out for, if MTLQQ can break through that with volume, it could go back into the $0.60's and $0.70's. This is for a trade only, you don't really own anything since it is the liquidation company of the old General Motors ( GM ) or GMGMQ.

SpongeTech Delivery Systems, Inc. (SPNG.OB) - SPNG stock traded back over $0.10 on Friday on positive news. At this point, it has a lot of resistance between $0.11-$0.13 but then nothing until the $0.15-$0.18 range. I don't expect Spongtech to gain momentum unless it breaks $0.13.

BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: BCRX) - BCRX stock exploded Friday on the following news. Biocryst has strong volume and I am watching for a break above $6.43 to go long for a retest of $7 from many years ago. BCRX is also a swine flu stock play that could catch fire this winter.

Targacept, Inc. (TRGT) - TRGT stock jumped again Friday after pausing on Thursday. On Wednesday, Targacept released the following news. The next resistance level is $10 from August 2008.

Human Genome Sciences Inc. (HGSI) - HGSI is expected to release key Lupus Drug data called BLISS-52 on Monday - July 20th. Keep an eye on this situation, could be a huge mover one way or the other based on the results.

Neah Power Systems, Inc. (NPWS.OB) - NPWS is looking to get listed on the AMEX stock exchange. If they get listed, the stock could see further upside.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - After breaking up through $13.65 resistance in the morning, AIG stock exploded to the upside but failed in the mid $14's. I am looking to jump into AIG again if it can close over $13.65.

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS stock formed a double top at the $50 resistance level Wednesday and Thursday and made a lower high on Friday. At this point, it appears the FAS run could be over here and I am looking for opportunities to trade FAZ. I'd be a buyer of FAZ anywhere under $41 but would be placing a stop at $39.95. I would be a buyer of FAS anywhere under $40.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock continues to hold $3, a very important support level once again. A close below $3 would take it back down to retest atleast $2.85 in my opinion. A close above $3.20 resistance would get me back into the stock. Check out my Citigroup Technical Analysis.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation reported solid earnings Friday but sold off. Technically, this stock is still a strong buy all the way down to $12. I continue to watch for a close over $13.93 which would probably take it up to $15. Doug Kass liked the earnings report which is a nice validation.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) - General Electric also reported a solid earnings report but the stock is selling off. GE capital was weak but CNBC and MSNBC were strong units. GE stock is pulling back to the 10 day moving average at $11.43.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC continues to hold that $1.37 support level after closing back over it this week. As long as CTIC holds $1.22, I like the stock.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - The next few trading days are going to be critical from a technical standpoint as the 10 day moving average is getting ready to break down through the 50 day moving average which is bearish. As long as HEB continues to close over the 50 day moving average it will be ok. Still waiting for an FDA decision on their CFS drug Ampligen.
