The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8616 on 7/15/09, as the stock market surged on a blowout earnings report by Intel Corporation ( INTC ). The Dow Jones Futures jumped last night and were up higher going into pre market trading. Right after the open, the stock market surged and the Dow broke up above the 50 day moving average. Stocks stalled out around lunch time but then has another surge after 1:30pm.

Today's rally was very broad with the best sector being the basic materials. Stock such as United States Steel Corp. (X) - Alcoa, Inc. (AA) - Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) - Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, Inc. (POT) showed strong gains in the sector.

Earnings have been the reason for the rally we are seeing this week. There are a lot of short sellers caught and if earnings keep coming out better then expected, the market will keep moving higher ( but not 250 points per day ). Keep an eye on earnings from JPM, IBM, and GOOG tomorrow. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Thursday.

July 15, 2009 - The old General Motors Corporation ( GMGMQ.PK ) is now GEN MOTORS (MTLQQ.PK) which is Motors Liquidation Company.

MTLQQ.PK opened up this morning and is trading at $0.63 so atleast investors are getting something and the GMGMQ shares aren't cancelled.

General Motors GMGMQ Stock Halted 7/15/09

July 15, 2009 - Shares of General Motors Corporation (GMGMQ.PK) are still halted today leaving many traders and investors very stressed as their funds are frozen in GM stock.

There has been no word out of FINRA on when or if shares of GMGMQ will reopen and resume trading as Motors Liquidation Company.

The New General Motors Corp is expected to come out with an IPO mid 2010. GM warned investors for the past month that GMGMQ will likely get wiped out with the bankruptcy.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones had a great day today, closing over the 200 day moving average as earnings continue to be better then expected. I expect the Dow Jones to clear 8400 easily on July 15th and retest the 50 day moving average at 8465 based on the Intel earnings released earlier. I know I have been saying sell 8400 but wasn't expecting these incredible earnings. Instead of selling 8400, I now want to place a stop at the 50 day moving average and let things run. There will be strong resistance at 8600 but if we can close above there....you could see a mega short covering rally. As long as earnings continue to impress, the market will go higher! Stocks to Watch - 7/15/09 - Stock Market Ideas

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG opened up and ran to $16.20 at the open on Tuesday and then sold off down to $13.65. This is the range I will be watching for the next several trading sessions. There is resistance around $15.25 and support at $14.50 if you are trying to trade AIG stock actively. I will most likely be jumping into AIG stock for a trade on a break above $16.20. I would be shorting a break below $13.65 if I can find shares to short.

Fuqi International, Inc. (FUQI) - I am highlighting FUQI today because it had such a powerful reversal off $15 this morning. If you look at the 5 day chart, FUQI has formed a double bottom at $15. FUQI stock usually has atleast 5-10% moves daily both ways, a day traders dream!

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - The Baltic Dry Index finally turned around Tuesday after a 9 day slide. Jefferies came out and reiterated a hold rating on DRYS stock as well. So this combined with bullish comments from Pete Najarian on Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ) sent the dry bulk shipping stocks ( DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) all higher Tuesday. Keep an eye on these stocks....I think they have a lot more room on the upside!

First Solar (FSLR) - I have been monitoring FSLR stock for about 2 weeks now as I want to start a long position. Waiting for FSLR to close back over the 10 day moving average ( currently $149.20 and falling daily ) and this is when I will buy half.

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (NYSE: POT) - Looking to buy under $82....I think it is time to start scaling back into the stock after a $30 drop.

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS traded up to $44.25 on Tuesday as resistance continues to be at the $45 level. I am looking to buy FAZ for a trade if FAS trades up around $50. All eyes wil be on JPM, BAC, And C earnings later this week. I would be a buyer of FAS if it trades down below $37.50.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock had another surge on Tuesday and traded near $3 in pre market. It appears traders are buying the stock before the earnings report on Friday. Support is $2.83-$2.85, a close below this level would be bearish for the short term and you'd probably see a retest of $2.60. A close above $3 would be bullish and you could see an additional surge to $3.20 - 3.25.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation is set to close over the 200 day moving average for the second time in two days which hasn't happened since the start of October 2008. Support is located at $12 which provides a very nice stop position going into earnings. Keep an eye on the next two major resistance levels which are $13.93 and $15.06. BAC is now a great long term buy in my opinion.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) - General Electric will be reporting earnings on Friday morning. I am watching support at $11.28 which is the 10 day moving average and $12.66 resistance which is the 50 day moving average. A solid earnings report would take GE stock back to the 50 day moving average easily!

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC stock continues to hang out at the $1.37 support level with very low volume. Expect CTIC to trade sideways until the next major press release. A break below $1.22 at any time going forward would be bearish.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - HEB stock continues to hold the 50 day moving average which has now turned up to $2 per share. A close below $2 would be very bearish from a technical point of view. Investors and traders continue to wait for the FDA decision on their CFS drug, Ampligen. Management continues to remain silent and refuses to update investors on the HUGE FDA decision delay. Also, Hemispherx Biopharma has been shut out of the U.S. government's efforts to stockpile vaccine against the H1N1 flu.
