The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8168 on 4/30/09, as the stock market rose in the morning and then fell on the Chrysler bankruptcy news. The Dow Jones Futures were up over 100 points this morning on a technical breakout which formed yesterday, hitting 8307 at one point today. As soon as the Chrysler news was official, stocks began to sell off. On a technical note, the Dow Jones failed to close over the previous 8190 April high for the second straight day.

MGM Mirage ( MGM ) was one of the hottest stocks today as the company announced they will get funding for one of their casino projects. MGM will be an active stock on Friday with over 70 million shares traded today.

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - April 30, 2009

Resistance Levels: 8190.66, 8300, 8500

Support Levels: 8000, 7750, 7550

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones broke out above the previous high of 8190 and most importantly, the downtrend line. This line now becomes support and the risk is to the upside. The high today of 8257.57 becomes minor resistance and I am expecting upside to the 8300-8400 area. A close above 8500 would be huge and then I think 9000 would be retested. On the downside, I like pullbacks under 8000 with a stop at 7750. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Financials: The financials were up nicely on Wednesday as Bank of America ( BAC ) held their shareholders meeting. I will be watching the following financial stocks as we head closer to the May 4th stress test results.

Citigroup ( C ) - Resistance at $3.15, $3.25, $3.35 - then smooth sailing
Bank of America ( BAC )
Financial Bull ( FAS )
Financial Bear ( FAZ )

Swine Flu Stocks: The swine flu stocks took a break on Wednesday but I continue to monitor them. I like these two in particular:

Novavax, Inc ( NAVX )
BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (BCRX)
Gilead Sciences Inc. (GILD)

Converted Organics Inc (COIN) - COIN continues to break out to the upside after releasing more news on Wednesday. I am watch the $1.79 resistance area for Thursday.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC stock popped in the afternoon hours on Wednesday, I am watching or a breakout above $0.45 resistance level.

Beacon Power Corporation (BCON) - BCON surged in trading Wednesday, will most likely buy some shares if BCON get break $1.00.
