The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7959 on 4/23/09, as the stock market traded sideways for most of the day as we await key earnings reports out of Microsoft ( MSFT ), Amazon ( AMZN ), and American Express ( AXP ) tonight. Tomorrow we will get further details on the bank stress test which might be a market mover.
The Dow Jones Futures started the day higher but the market went down after pending home sales data was released. There was a nice pop during the afternoon hours but sellers quickly came back into the market and turned it red again. In the final half hour, stocks turned back green and actually broke through the highs of the day going into the close. For the Dow Jones, I continue to pay attention to the key support level of 7750. The S&P 500 has support at 825 as well. Here are the stocks I am watching for Friday.

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 4/23/09Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - April 23, 2009
Resistance Levels: 8000, 8190
Support Levels: 7750, 7550

The Dow Jones failed to hold 8000 earlier today and collapsed at the end of the day. The Dow Jones has now closed below the 10 day moving average for the third straight day, something that hasn't happened since we hit the March lows. I am watching 7750 which has been a strong support level. If we close below 7750, a new downtrend will start. Carter Worth caused the late day sell off when he said sell sell sell. Financials: The financial stocks such as Citigroup ( C ), Bank of America ( BAC ), Wells Fargo ( WFC ), Financials Bull 3x ( FAS ), and Financial Bear 3x ( FAZ ) were all over the place on Wednesday. Expect the volatility to continue! FAS has short term support at $7 and $6.00.
Lear Corp. (LEA) - Lear broke out to the upside Wednesday on no news. LEA now trades above the 10 day moving average at $0.93. I will be watching for a break back up through $1.00 before I start trading this stock.
Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC broke out on huge volume Wednesday on no news. The volume was 5 times normal daily volume. Looking at the charts, CTIC has support around $0.37-$0.38 and resistance between $0.43-$0.45 as well as $0.49. For some reason, CTIC has been a very popular stock lately. We could be looking at the start of a nice break out!

Stock Market April 23, 2009 4/23/09
The Stock Market was on fire Wednesday after earnings reports out of Wells Fargo ( WFC ) and AT&T ( T ). Shares of General Electric ( GE ) were up 5% to $12.28 which helped the Dow Jones rise.
All eyes will be on Apple ( AAPL ) which reports Wednesday evening. This earnings report will set the tone for trading on Thursday, April 23rd.
