The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9726 on 10/7/09, as the stock market traded sideways as we await earnings out of Alcoa, Inc. (AA) this evening. The Dow Futures began the day lower but the stock market traded sideways pretty much all day on low volume.

Tonight, Alcoa, Inc. (AA) is expected to report around 4.4 billion in revenue and lose $0.12 per share. In addition to Alcoa's earnings, we will receive initial jobless claims tomorrow morning. These are the real events that will move the market for tomorrow. A a lot of the big traders are waiting until this data is released to make decisions as we go into next week.
