The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9731 on 10/6/09, as the stock market soared after the US Dollar fell and Gold Prices broke to fresh highs. The Dow Jones Futures started the day modestly higher but the stock market improved throughout the day thanks to Gold racing past 1040. Most of the gold stocks were up anywhere between 5-10% on the day given this huge move in the commodity. Right behind Gold was Oil which rose above $71. Oil could be the next commodity to break out to the upside. There is technical resistance around $75 and a few closes above that level would cause a short squeeze.

Switching back to the stock market, tomorrow we will receive some earnings out of Dow component Alcoa, Inc. (AA). Wall Street is expecting the aluminum producer to report sales of 4.45 Billion but lose $0.14 per share. This earnings report will officially kick off 3rd quarter earnings season. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Wednesday. If you are a stock trader, check out my stocks to watch report for tomorrow.
