The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8301 on 5/27/09, as the stock market was mixed all day but tanked during the afternoon hours. The Dow Jones Futures were up slightly in pre market and stocks zig zagged from positive to negative for most of the day. The stock market started to sell off after a treasury auction went well but Wall Street feared demand could weaken in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, the Government keeps printing money and commodities are skyrocketing again ( ie, Oil, Gold ). The Dow Jones was rejected in the 8500's and the S&P 500 can no longer hold 900. I continue to watch 8250 on a closing basis for the Dow Jones and 879 for the S&P 500. A close below these levels would be very bearish in the short term.

Meanwhile, the hottest stock today was a tiny company called Oculus Innovative Sciences, Inc. (OCLS). Oculus says FDA approves skin, wound gel which sent the stock up more then 250%.

Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates 5/27/09 BDI

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. Mortgage Rates really went up today! This is the first time in 3-4 weeks where I saw a noticeable tick up in interest rates.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones made another run at 8500 today but failed at 8495. Both 8500 & 8600 are resistance levels going forward. A close above 8600 would be huge and I think the Dow would retest the 200 day moving average and possible up to 9000. On the downside, 8222 and 8250 continue to hold on a closing basis. These are two major support levels which if closed below, could spark a big sell off back to 8000 or lower. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stocks to Watch - 5/27/09 - Stock Market Ideas

General Motors Corporation ( NYSE:GM) - The UAW was out on Tuesday stating that the Government will be providing GM with massive assistance in order to avoid liquidation. GM made a high of $1.84 and then pulled back into the $1.50's. On Wednesday, I will be watching $1.84 as well as the $2.24 high on Friday. If GM does go bankrupt, shareholders will most likely be wiped out.

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Direxion Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS stock broke through the $9.31 resistance level on Tuesday and hit a high of $9.80. These two levels become support and resistance levels going forward. FAS also has support at $8.60 and resistance at $10. Discuss FAS/FAZ

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - I continue to watch Citigroup stock. A break above $3.96 - $4.00 would be bullish, a break below $3.50 would be bearish.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) - BAC stock continues to hold $10 but seems to have stalled here. After two upgrades in the past week, BAC has gone down about 8% since the first upgrade. Bank of America continues to fail at the 10 day moving average which is now $11.33 and trending lower.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - HEB is one of the hottest stocks in the stock market right now. The company came out with news that one of their drugs that the FDA is reviewing might be delayed 1-2 weeks. On a technical basis, HEB has suport around the 10 day moving average at $1.37, resistance at $1.80 and between $2-$2.03. This stock will continue to be active leading up to the FDA decision. Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC stock has been quiet over the past week. I continue to monitor this stock as I will be a buyer when CTIC breaks back up through $1.37. Support is at $1.00 so CTIC is near the middle of this range. The volume has died down so if CTIC starts to move higher on a big volume spike, the day traders will pile back into the stock.
