The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8269 on 5/15/09, as the stock market continued the downward move after a slight bounce on Thursday. The Dow Jones Futures were lower in pre market but stocks bounced right after the open. The stock market then reversed downward during the afternoon before bouncing back in the final hour. The volume was very light but it was clear that the financials led the market lower. Looking back at this past week, we received a worse then expected retail sales figure and a higher then expected initial jobless claims number. Investors could be simply selling into the recent strong rally.

I will be watching the Housing Starts and Building Permits data that comes out on Tuesday. This will surely be a market moving event.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones bounced back today after selling off big on Wednesday. However, it closed below the 10 day moving average once again which is worth watching. There will be some solid support at 8000 so if we get a pullback to that area, I will be a buyer. A close below the 50 day moving average (7814) will be an event where I get bearish again. On the upside, a break above 8587.55 will finally make the Dow retest the 200 day moving average. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stocks to Watch - 5/15/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Financials: Most of the Bank Stocks rallied on Thursday after three straight days of weak trading. Going into the final two hours, the stock market has come off the highs. Below detailed list of stocks that I will be watching for Friday.

Direxion Financial Bear 3X Shares (NYSE: FAZ)
Direxion Financial Bull 3X Shares (NYSE: FAS) - FAS stock hit a low of $8.29 on Thursday before bouncing back to the $9.30 resistance level. I was expecting to see a capitulation down move in FAS on Thursday but did not see it. The 10 day moving average is all the way up at $9.97 so we could definitely see a retest of that price in the next few days. What happens after that is up in the air. I will let the stock price tell me what I need to know. A close back over $10 for FAS would be very bullish.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citi stock is trading back over $3.50 which is a good sign. $3.70 now becomes resistance on the upside as well as $4.00. If you follow moving averages, while the 10 day moving average is located at $3.56, the 50 day moving average continues to rise and is now $2.89. As always, waiting for that break above $4.41 and $4.48.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) - I am watching $11.78 which is the 10 day moving average. Also, If BAC falls below $10 I would be a buyer.

Huntington Bancshares Inc. (HBAN) - I like how HBAN bounced off the 10 day moving average this morning. I would be buying pullbacks to $4.

Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB) - FITB got close to the 10 day moving average and then bounced higher. I like pullbacks to $6.35 and below $6.

AgFeed Industries, Inc. (FEED) - A little update on Agfeed. The recent high is located at $4.65. I would be a buyer on a break above that level or a pullback to the rising 50 day moving average at $2.85.
