The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7217 on 3/16/09, as the stock market exploded higher in the morning but was weak in the last hour of trading. The financial stocks led the way in the morning but gave back the majority of their gains in late trading. The Dow Jones Futures opened the day strong after Barclays ( BCS ) said they are having a great quarter. The Nasdaq was very weak today as profit taking came into the market. One of the hottest stocks today was Citigroup ( C ) which at one point was trading at $2.68 per share. General Electric ( GE ) hit a high of $10.36 in early trading but then gave back all gains at about 3:45pm.

Financial Bull 3X ( FAS ) hit $5.90 but then hit a new daily low right after 3pm and went on to test $5.00 per share. This is very concerning to me and could be a sign that this stock market run is over for now. This was a huge reversal! Financial Bear 3X ( FAZ ) is now a stock worth watching. If FAS breaks $4.59 which was the low on Friday, things could get ugly!

Tomorrow the Federal Reserve will kick off a two day meeting. In the morning we will get Economic Data such as Building Permits, PPI, Core PPI, and Housing Starts.

Dow Jones Futures 3/16/09 Stock Market Futures

How will the stock market open on Monday - March 16, 2009? The Dow Jones and Stock Market Futures are pointing toward a Higher Open for pre market. Check out technical analysis for March 16th. Oil Prices are lower as Opec did not cut production at the OPEC meeting over the weekend. The next meeting is scheduled for May.

The Stock Market is higher due to Barclays ( BCS ) bank in Europe saying they are having a great First Quarter. Citigroup is testing $2 in pre market. All I will say is these banks better show profit in a month when they report earnings or its going to get ugly!

Resistance Levels: 7449, 7500, 7824, 8000

Support Levels: 7000, 6822, 6500, 6310, 6000

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones has gone up 4 straight days which hasn't happened since the end of November. The Dow will have some resistance at the previous low of 7449 and also 7500. If the Dow Jones can close above these levels, I think it could retest 8000 where the major resistance is.
Dow 7000 now acts as a nice support level, a close below this and we will retest the lows once again. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average will be a good area to buy as well. The stock market will face a lot of economic data and events ( Fed Meeting, TALF, Market to Market, ect ) next week so it could get very intersting! For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Resistance Levels: 1480, 1500, 1600

Support Levels: 1400, 1344, 1300, 1253.22

Stock Market Futures

The Nasdaq has gone up 4 straight days and has closed all 4 days above the 10 day moving average. Resistance will be around 1480 ( 50 day moving average ) and 1500. If the Nasdaq gets above 1500 there will be a lot of sellers willing to unload, so its hard for me to see it going that far in such a short amount of time. Support is at the 10 day moving average around 1345. I would be buying a pullback at this level and I strongly believe it will be tested in the coming weeks, although it will be much higher.
