The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8744 on 7/17/09, as the stock market traded flat after several bank related earnings. The Dow Jones Futures were lower in pre market but stocks were mostly flat all day long. We will find out Monday or Tuesday whether or not CIT Group ( CIT ) gets funding from the private sector. The Government has indicated that they will not bail out the company. A bankruptcy would be really bad for up to a million small business which include key retailers who need to purchase their Christmas and back to school items.

The hottest sector today was Energy. Stocks such as Headwaters Inc. (HW) - Eagle Rock Energy Partners, L.P. (EROC) - Superior Well Services Inc. (SWSI) - Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. (ANW) and Venoco, Inc. (VQ) saw nice gains!

Next week will be light on economic data but one of the busiest weeks for earnings. Among the companies releasing earnings will be Apple Inc ( AAPL ). Check out some of the events I will be watching for Monday.

The Dow Jones exploded higher on some comments out of Nouriel Rubini which were taken out of context by several news outlets. Tomorrow will be interesting because we get several Dow component earnings in the morning. I feel we are due for a pullback to atleast the 50 day moving average at 8475 which I would be a buyer of. As long as we hold 8400 on a closing basis, I am bullish. Keep an eye on 8878 on the upside as well...if we do break through and close above that, we will run up and possibly break 9000... Stocks to Watch - 7/17/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Human Genome Sciences Inc. (HGSI) - HGSI stock was on fire Thursday after Leerink Swann hosted a call with MEDACorp consultants who were cautiously optimistic on HGSI's upcoming BLISS-52 data expected on Monday - July 20, 2009 ( briefing.com ). This is something to keep an eye on because if the Lupus drug data is good, HGSI will have additional upside. Here is an another article - Odds stacked against Human Genome's lupus drug.

STEC, Inc. (STEC) - Stec inks supply deal for flash drives; stock soars - STEC has been one of the hottest stocks in 2009 so far. The stock is in uncharted territory because it keeps breaking to new highs. I would be a buyer on pullbacks to the low $20's if you get another chance.

Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ANPI) - ANPI stock surged on Thursday afternoon as the company received FDA Approval. Angiotech Pharmaceuticals announces FDA approval of TAXUS(R) Liberte(R) Long Stent. ANPI stock has major resistance at $2 but if it can close over that, a retest of the $2.93 high could be ahead.

Coal Stocks - Patriot Coal Corporation (PCX) & James River Coal Co. (JRCC) were upgraded by JP Morgan Thursday morning. Keep an eye on these coal stocks as well as Bucyrus International Inc. (BUCY) - Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) - Massey Energy Co. (MEE). These coal stocks have all had nice pullbacks and could be getting ready to resume their uptrend's.

Bakken Shale - Three Forks Oil Zone - Brigham Exploration Co. (BEXP) announced Wednesday that one of their wells in the Sanish - Three Forks zone was hitting over 2,000 barrels of Oil Equivalent per day. This was huge news and I expect buyers to continue to buy BEXP stock on dips. Other companies have also been going up because of this news. Keep an eye on Continental Resources Inc. (CLR) - Whiting Petroleum Corp. (WLL) - XTO Energy Inc. (XTO) - Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. (KOG) - St. Mary Land & Exploration Co. (SM) - Newfield Exploration Co. (NFX) all which have exposure to the Three Forks Oil Area in North Dakota. I personally own CLR

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG stock broke down through the support are of $13.65 on Thursday which resulted in a huge drop. Since the plunge, AIG has been struggling to get back above $13. I would only be buying AIG Friday if it breaks back above $13.65. AIG now has support at $12 and then down to $11. No telling which direction AIG will head next, but I am using $13.65 as a resistance level.

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS stock had a pullback Thursday after failing at near $50 on Wednesday. Tomorrow we get earnings out of Citigroup and Bank of America which will really move both the FAS and FAZ. If and when FAS breaks up through $50, I will wait for FAS to run out of gas and then jump into FAZ for a trade. I will do this when FAS is trading over $50...stalls, and then begins to break down through the lows of the day ( FAZ would be breaking the highs of the day ). Pullbacks below $40 for FAS are now a strong buy going forward.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock held $3 on Thursday and will be reporting earnings tomorrow. Check out my Citigroup Technical Analysis.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation continues to perform strongly after closing over the 200 day moving average which sparked a long term buy signal. I don't expect BAC stock to ever trade below $10 again. Earnings are due out tomorrow in which B of A is expected to report a profit of $0.24 cents per share. Pullbacks to $12 or below are a strong buy.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) - GE reports earnings Friday - expect $0.23 per share in earnings and the stock to be a big mover on way or the other.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC traded back above $1.37 on Wednesday, this is bullish but we need to see a pick up in volume for the stock to really break out again. As you already know, I love CTIC as long as it holds $1.22.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - HEB stock continues to flatline as investors and traders wait for an FDA decision on their CFS drug, Ampligen. I want to buy this stock if they do receive Approval but not before the decision.
