The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8712 on 7/16/09, as the stock market exploded higher once again on better then expected earnings out of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) as well as Nouriel Roubini " Dr. Doom " out stating that the worst of the recession is now OVER and the recession could be over by the end of the year. This may be the first bullish statement out from Roubini and the stock market exploded higher after the headline crossed. The Dow Jones Futures started the day mixed and the stock market was flat to down most of the day but surged on the Nouriel Roubini comment right after 1pm EST. Key resistance levels would be S&P 500 at 950 and The Dow Jones testing 8878.

Nouriel Roubini was out in afterhours stating that his words were taken out of context by several news outlets. Roubini states that nothing has changed as far as his forecast.

Tonight we will have earnings out of International Business Machines Corp. ( NYSE:IBM) and Google Inc ( NASDAQ:GOOG). I expect IBM to do well but am not sure about Google. We will also get earnings tomorrow out of GE, BAC, and Citigroup.

Today's hottest sector was Transportation. Stocks such as FedEx Corporation (FDX) - United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) and Greenbrier Companies (GBX) were on fire!

The 2nd best sector was Capital Goods. Stocks such as Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. (SWHC) - Esterline Technologies Corp. (ESL) and China Yuchai International Limited (CYD) were bright spots in that sector.

Citigroup stock has been failing around $3.20 after a nice bounce from oversold conditions. From this point on, support at $3 must hold or the risks to retesting $2.85 and down to $2.55 are high. If you are thinking about taking a long position, wait for a close over the 50 day moving average ( currently $3.32 ) which would trigger a buy signal technically.A close below $2.55 at any time would be very bearish and I think you could see a retest of $2.25 down to $2.00. I am personally waiting for Citigroup to close over $4 before I buy the stock....a close over $4 would be for a good fundamental reason and I think C stock could then run to $5-$6 For more Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones ripped higher today on better then expected earnings out of Intel ( INTC ). The Dow closed above 8600 which is a higher close then both of the shoulders on the head and shoulders pattern. Earnings have been outstanding and is the prime reason for this rally. If they can continue, we could see the Dow trade all the way up to 9000. If we get some bad ones, the Dow can easily trade back to that 8250 line. Given the move we are seeing this week, we now have a nice floor of around 8100 that should be solid and hold going forward. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stocks to Watch - 7/16/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Targacept, Inc. (TRGT) - TRGT soared over 100% on Wednesday after the following news was released. Targacept's depression drug meets mid-stage trial goals. This was the hottest stock of the day and I expect additional trading opportunities for the rest of the week. As long as TRCT trades around the $7 level, I am bullish on a break up through $7.45 with resistance at the daily high of $7.95. A break above $7.95 and the buyers will flood back into the stock driving it even higher. Support is currently at $6.50 and $5.55. Discuss TRGT

Brigham Exploration Co. (BEXP) - BEXP exploded Wednesday on the following news - Brigham Exploration Announces 2,021 Boepd Three Forks Well and Provides Williston Basin Update - Bakken Shale - Continental Resources Inc. (CLR) was also higher by 9% because of this news - I own CLR personally. BEXP was also upgraded to a strong buy by Raymond James. I am watching $3.78 resistance as well as $3.89. After that, nothing major until $4.10 and above. If Oil prices continue to surge higher, look for strength in BEXP stock.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) - LVS stock broke out on Wednesday, I am watching for a possible retest of the 50 day moving average at $8.86. If LVS can close over the 50 day moving average going forward, you could see the stock run back to $10. I am also watching MGM Mirage (MGM) and Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN) as well.

DryShips, Inc. (DRYS) - The Baltic Dry Index was up huge again Wednesday. So this combined with bullish comments from Pete Najarian on Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ) sent the dry bulk shipping stocks ( DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) higher Wednesday. Keep an eye on these stocks....I think they have a lot more room on the upside! DRYS stock is now breaking up through $6....very bullish!

First Solar (FSLR) - Bought FSLR today as it broke above the 10 day moving average. This is only a half position and will wait to buy the other half incase I am early. I am in at $148. Resistance at $151.88 and then nothing until $158. Stay tuned......

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (NYSE: POT) - Another stock that I like buy have no position right now. Keep an eye on the 10 day moving located at $90.08, a close above that would be very bullish going forward.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG stock retested the recent low of $13.65 which held at $13.80. Since $13.65 held Wednesday, it becomes an even stronger support level. If broken, I think AIG can retest atleast $12. On the upside, AIG will run again if it breaks resistance between $15-$15.25. Right now, AIG is just going back and forth right in the middle of this range. I am staying away until I see which way the stock goes next.

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS continues to be on fire as the financials rip higher. FAS stock will probably have trouble at $50 but with JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and Bank of America Corporation (BAC) are due out over the next two days. If FAS does break $50 and start to run, I will probably buy some FAZ for a trade and to atleast give me some short exposure in my portfolio.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock has been on fire as we count down to earnings on Friday. I really can't see myself chasing this stock after a 25% gain in three trading days. If Citigroup trades up to $3.50-$3.60 after earnings, I would be using it as a selling opportunity.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation continues to surge after closing over the 200 day moving average on Monday. BAC stock is now worth buying on any major pullbacks....let say $12.50 down to $12. BAC is set to report earnings on Friday. Keep an eye on resistance at $13.93, a break above that level would extend this rally.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) - General Electric will be reporting earnings on Friday morning. GE stock has resistance at the 50 day moving average which is now $12.65. A close above this level would be huge and I think you would see a retest of the 200 day moving average which is in the $13's. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average at $11.34 should now be bought.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC traded back above $1.37 on Wednesday, this is bullish but we need to see a pick up in volume for the stock to really break out again. As you already know, I love CTIC as long as it holds $1.22.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - HEB stock continues to hold the 50 day moving average which is now at $2.03. I could see HEB breaking out if it closes above $2.23 which is the 10 day moving average. Investors and traders continue to wait for the FDA decision on their CFS drug, Ampligen. Management continues to remain silent and refuses to update investors on the HUGE FDA decision delay.
