Stimulus Plan Update 2/17/09 February 17, 2009

President Barack Obama will be signing the stimulus bill on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, from Denver, Colorado.

Obama will sign the $787 billion dollar bill at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in Colorado as a sign that this stimulus will help people all across America.

The Stimulus passed the Senate 60-38 and it also passed the house with no republican votes, 246-183.

On Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - Obama will give a speech in Phoenix, Arizona. During this speech, the President will outline a new plan that hopes to stem foreclosures. US foreclosures hit a high in January as 274,399 applications were filed!

Stimulus Package Vote 2/13/09 February 13, 2009

The Stimulus Package, which passed the Senate vote, will go into the House of Representatives tonight, 2/13/09. Congress appears to have enough votes to push this Stimulus Plan through.

Stimulus Highlights

- Cost: $789 Billion (it is 2009 - if one were to have spent $1 million every day for the past 2,009 years, you'd still have money left over - that's how much $789 billion is )

- Provides a new $2,500 tax credit for college education expenses

- Provides an $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers for homes purchased between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1, 2009. The tax credit phases out for individuals earning more than $75,000 and couples earning more than $150,000.

- Allows small businesses with gross receipts of up to $15 million to write off 2008 losses against five previous tax years. Current laws allows a two-year carryback of losses.

- Extends tax breaks for wind facilities and other renewable energy facilities and provides other tax incentives to encourage development of renewable energy facilities.

Stimulus Plan Update 2/12/09 February 12, 2009

Lawmakers in Washington seem to have reached a deal on the Stimulus Package and could vote on it as early as 2/12/09. Below are details of the Stimulus Package.

- Cost: $789 Billion (it is 2009 - if one were to have spent $1 million every day for the past 2,009 years, you'd still have money left over - that's how much $789 billion is )

- Up to an $8,000 tax credit for new home buyers - down from the proposed $15,000 - reported by Bloomberg

- New Car sales tax write off, interest write off

- Over $150 billion will go to infrastructure, Roads, Buildings, Water System
