The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9362 on 8/12/09, as the stock market exploded after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged. The Dow Jones Futures opened pre market trading flat but the buyers stepped into stock market in a big way right after the open. Financials led the morning rally as Citigroup tested $4 and Goldman Sachs ( GS ) hit $164. The Federal Reserve chose to leave interest rates unchanged and the stock market began to sell off but right before 3pm, the markets hit new daily highs. The next big stock market mover will be the initial jobless claims data due out at 8:30am EST on tomorrow. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Thursday.

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones closed below the 10 day moving average today on the eve of the Fed Meeting tomorrow. I am now being cautious with taking any risky trading positions and I will be setting tighter stop orders. Today's close was a trend change and while the 10 day has been violated, I need to wait until after the Fed meeting to get a sense of the next direction. 9000 is a solid support level so the downside could be limited to another 240 points or so. A close back above the 10 day moving average would be bullish. Stay tuned but keep in mind what happened today.

Stocks to Watch - 8/12/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Short ETF's: The Dow Jones is testing the 10 day moving average today at 9248. The is the first time since the rally began in early July that the 10 day is being hit. A close below 9248 would be bearish and you might want to think about buying some SHORT ETF's

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - So FAS broke through the previous days low today ( $72.43 ) for the first time in 14 trading sessions and now you see the result. FAZ is now the stock I want to be trading in the short term as the market appears to be correcting. Support levels for FAS are: $67.20, $65.85 and $60.78. The only way i'd get back into FAS right now if it closed back over $72.53. Watching FAZ right now, always keeping tight stops.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG broke through $28 Tuesday and tested $24 ( $24.32 ) which so far has held. A close below $24.32 would set up a retest of the $23 area which would be an interesting buy for a quick bounce trade. That is what I am looking to do.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup hit $3.57 on Tuesday which was only $0.07 away from support. The buying was just to great and now Citi is trading back in the $3.70's. I am still going to sit on my hands and probably buy C stock when it breaks through the high of the day which is Rule #5 of my set of trading rules.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation is back in the $15's and appears to be starting a pullback to retest the 10 day moving average which is located at $15.31. If the 10 day moving average fails I will either wait for a test of the 50 day moving average ( $13.31 ) to be hit or a close back over the 10 day moving average to buy. I would love the chance to buy under $14 again but the BAC train may have already left the station. On the upside, I continue to watch $16.93 as a major resistance level and think that once $16.93 is closed over, the $20's will not be far ahead.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) - LVS is back testing the 10 day moving average at $11.01....there is a chance a retest of the 50 day moving average could happen ( $9.01 ) at which case I'd be a strong buyer of the stock. Resistance levels are now the high from yesterday at $13.16 and $16.81.

CROCS Inc. (CROX) - CROX shareholders have to be happy today as the market is getting hit yet the stock is in the green and holding strong. I will be a buyer of CROX when it breaks through $6.41 or pulls back to around $5. This company is expected to become profitable again in 2010.

Brigham Exploration Co. (BEXP) - Another huge Sanish Three Forks Oil well hitting 2154 BOEPD. This is probably the #1 performing well that has come out of the Bakken Shale. Keeping an eye on resistance at $7.43, $8, and $8.41....then its blast off. I have no idea why BEXP isn't trading above $9 right now. About three weeks ago, BEXP also hit a 2021 BOEPD well near the same location.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - I continue to watch CTIC as they have an FDA application decision coming up on August 24th. CTIC could really move up in anticipation of a positive outcome.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - I continue to watch HEB...waiting for a break above $2.09 and then $2.17 to jump in for a quick trade. $2.00 was broken this morning but the volume didn't pick up like I expected. HEB could be hitting bottom right here at $2 but I will wait until $2.09 is broken to get back in.
