The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 10173 on 1/21/10, as the stock market tanked again today. This time is was due to the uncertainty on what could happen with Ben Bernanke in the coming weeks. The Dow Jones Futures began the trading day down around 40. The major averages briefly flirted with positive territory but then news came out that Ben Bernanke might not remain as Federal Reserve Chairman very long. Warren Buffet was quoted on CNBC saying that he would be selling stocks if Ben Bernanke was shown to the door. This statement had investors and traders on edge today as it is becoming more evident that Bernanke does not have the proper backing right now.
The Dow Jones broke support at 10,200 in the final hour of trading today. This is a critical support level that needed to hold on a closing basis or there was huge risk for additional downside. As you can see, the Dow did close below this level today! If you follow the S&P 500, support is located between 1080-1085. The next major support level for the Dow Jones is located at 10,000.
The volatility is finally back and I plan to be actively trade FAS next week.
