The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8325 on 7/6/09, as the stock market dropped as investors and traders came back from a 3-day weekend and pushed the sell button. The Dow Jones Futures started the day lower as the bank stocks and financial sectors were very weak. The Dow Jones staged several rallies off the lows to go positive going into the closing bell. Shares of Citigroup ( C ) and Bank of America ( BAC ) were down 4-5% on the day and led the financials lower. The reason the Dow Jones held up so well today was because of American Express Company (AXP) which was up over 5% on the day. The NASDAQ slipped 1% as Apple Inc ( AAPL ) and Research in Motion ( RIMM ) shares dropped around 1-2% each.
The Dow Jones continues to attract buyers every time we come near the 8200 level. I am still waiting for the Dow to close below 8250 before I get bearish. Until then, I think you have to remain neutral was we continue to trade in this 8200-8600 trading range. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Tuesday.
