The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9097 on 7/28/09, as the stock market went down on profit taking and a weak consumer confidence number. The Dow Jones Futures were lower this morning to start the day but right after the open we received more positive housing data which helped the market go green. The Case Shiller Index, which measures home values, rose in May for the first time in 3 years.
Citigroup ( C ) was the most active stock on the NYSE and went up over 10% today. A positive Barron's article made the case that Citigroup could be getting a lift from index buying soon.
The hottest sector today was technology which was up just slightly. IBM bought SPSS Inc. (SPSS) for 1.2 Billion which helped tech greatly.
Tomorrow Wall Street will be receiving the Durable Goods order report due out at 8:30am EST.
