The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8147 on 7/10/09, as the stock market traded down on lower energy prices and a continuation of the recent downtrend. The Dow Futures opened pre market lower and never really recovered at all. The stock market made several attempts to go back into the green but each attempt failed. Oil closed under $60 per barrel which hit oil related stocks. The most notable sector of weakness today was the agriculture stocks such as Potash ( POT ) and Mosaic ( MOS ).

Shares of General Motors ( GMGMQ ) were halted after the new company emerged from bankruptcy. It appears GM stock will be cancelled and a new IPO will go public sometime in 2010.

Next week will be an earnings jammed week with several major companies releasing earnings. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Monday.
