The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8675 on 6/3/09, as the stock market fell on weaker then expected economic data and the fact that we were due for a pullback. The Dow Jones Futures started the day down and things got worse after the open. Things did get better right before the close. The basic materials and energy sector led the stock market lower as investors sold commodities and commodities related stocks. Huge recent runners such as Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) - Potash Corp./Saskatchewan (USA) ( POT ) - Alcoa Inc. ( AA ) - United States Steel Corporation ( X ) led the market lower. The financials were weak again but not that bad. I am looking for a pullback on the Dow Jones to around 8500 before the next try at closing over the 200 day moving average. Support at 8250 must hold going forward on a closing basis or we could be in trouble from a technical basis. Tomorrow we will see what initial jobless claims were like from last week which comes out at 8:30am EST. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Thursday.
