The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8472 on 6/25/09, as the stock market surged on a worse then expected initial claims figure but made a relief rally as Ben Bernanke presented himself well today during a congressional hearing. Home building and Retail companies also surged helping Wall Street put together a solid day. The Dow Jones Futures started the day lower as initial jobless claims came in at 627,000 which was much higher then expected. After a weak open, stocks jumped and never looked back led by The Home Depot, Inc. (HD), Lowe's Companies Inc. (LOW), Lennar Corp. (LEN), and Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (BBBY). The bank stocks were the laggard sector.
I'm not getting to excited because there is major resistance on the Dow Jones at 8500 and the S&P 500 at 930. If you are familiar with a head and shoulders pattern, this could be right right and final shoulder before a major correction. We won't know until at least next week but it is something to watch.
