The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8411 on 5/5/09, as the stock market gave back a small amount of gains after a huge move late in the day on Monday. The Dow Jones Futures were down this morning but the Dow hit a fresh monthly high of 8458 right after the open. 8500 will be a tough area to get close over, especially with the bank stress test results looming on the horizon. Tomorrow morning, Wall Street will receive the latest ADP employment data which should be a stock market moving event. Top economists expect a loss of 643K jobs. The financials were strong today led by Citigroup ( C ) and Bank of America ( BAC ). Both stocks were up around 5%.
The best group of stocks today were once again the Casino Stocks. MGM reported better then expected earnings as did Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN). Las Vegas Sands ( LVS ) reports tonight after the bell and Boyd Gaming ( BYD ) is out with earnings tomorrow. I'd be a buyer for a trade on any strong pullbacks.
