The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7401 on 3/19/09, as the stock market went down today due to profit taking. The Dow Jones was positive at the open but then slipped into negative territory as the day went on. Every rally attempt was sold off with the financial stocks leading the decline after being in positive territory during pre market trading.
Citigroup ( C ) stock hit a high of $3.89 today after the news of a reverse split came in pre market. The bubble then popped and Citi stock broke the $2.68 support level hitting a low of $2.60. Financial Bull ( FAS ) jumped to $7.80 and then hit a low of $5.70. Financial Bear ( FAZ ) stock hit a low of $23.88 in the morning and then went on to rally to $30.30.
Oil and Gold Prices went higher for the second straight day as investors flocked into inflationary assets. Gold was just $895 in pre market yesterday and now trades at $959. Oil rose above $50 and Natural Gas was the big highlight of the day, jumping to $4.20, up $0.50
