The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7555 on 2/18/09, as the stock market bounced around from positive and negative all day with no clear direction. The Dow Jones and Stock Market Futures were up to start the day but at the open, the Dow Jones tested a new 52 week low. After the low of 7449 held, the Dow Jones then went up into positive territory. Barack Obama came out with his housing plan right after noon and the stock market seemed to like this plan.
There were several stocks on my radar list that were weak today: Research in Motion ( RIMM ), United Steel ( X ), Palm ( PALM ) and Dryships ( DRYS ). Drys started pre market as one of the hottest stocks....I'm not sure who was buying but the volume was heavy. If you look at the chart, it seems that buyer was forced to sell that position right at the open. I continue to monitor Dryships closely because it has the potential to produce explosive gains.
There was also some notable strong stocks on my radar today: Potash ( POT ), Baidu ( BIDU ), and Freeport McMoran ( FCX ).
