The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8123 on 1/22/09, as the stock market was very volatile but down all day due to Microsoft ( MSFT ) releasing their horrible earnings about 7 hours early. We also had Citigroup ( C ) and Bank of America ( BAC ) both fall around 14% each. Two big winners today were Apple ( AAPL ), which reported a blowout earnings quarter, and Knight Capital ( NITE ) who also reported wonderful earnings. Oil received horrible inventory data today but despite falling toward $40 around 11am, Oil rallied back with the markets in late trading to hit $43 once again. This is something to watch - the USO stock seems to be forming a bottom in the $28's. I am long the USO but haven't taken my full position yet. I am waiting for a close back over the 10 day moving average and a close over $31.
