The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8474 on 1/12/09, as the stock market went down on fears that Alcoa's ( AA ) earnings will disappoint tonight. AA is expected to report a loss of 4 cents per share. Also, a huge warning sign today was the trading action in Citigroup ( C ) stock. Citi shares broke two key support levels and began another rapid decline during the afternoon hours. Citigroup broke $6.51 in the morning, and then $5.94 during the afternoon. These were two key lows in December. Citigroup traded below $5.45 in the final hour of trading today down almost 20% on the day. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq followed the S&P 500 lower and now the Dow Jones is below 8500, a key support level. Tomorrow will be an interesting day for the stock market!
