Dow Jones Analysis 1/20/09 - Stock Market Analysis

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 1/19/09, 1/20/09

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - January 20, 2009

Resistance Levels: 8350, 8500, 8765
Support Levels: 8150, 8000, 7965

The Dow Jones bounced off 8000 again last week with heavy volume...this is a positive signal but we are still below the last major support level of 8500 and below both the 10 and 50 day moving averages. What is more concerning is that you can see the 10 day moving ( blue line ) average getting ready to dip below the 50 ( red line ) again. This set up is never what you want to see if you are taking long positions. For prices to move higher, you always want to see the 10 day above the 50 day. If the Dow Jones gets back to the 8500 level which is now resistance, traders will probably be starting to sell. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Nasdaq Analysis 1/20/09 January 20, 2009

The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( NAS ) for 1/19/09, 1/20/09

Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - January 20, 2009

Resistance Levels: 1534, 1568.41, 1600
Support Levels: 1500, 1456

After hitting a low of 1456, the Nasdaq is back over the key support level of 1500. While I remain bullish on the Nasdaq over 1500, it is trading below both key moving averages that I follow, the 10 and 50 day moving averages. As long as this is the case, traders are more inclined to sell when these levels are hit, rather then to hold long positions. The previous uptrend has been broken and it appears that a head and shoulders pattern is forming which would be a bearish set up. Next week I will be watching to see if we can close over both moving averages but if we would get back into the 1600's I will be buying QID

3 Month - 1.143%

Commodities Closing Prices - 1/16/09

Gold - 842.50

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8281 on 1/16/09, as the stock market rallied as Bank of America ( BAC ) and Citigroup ( C ) released horrible earnings but Intel ( INTC ) showed us that earnings might not be so bad for the 4th quarter. The Dow Jones opened up around 8300, dropped to 8100, and then bounced back into the 8300 area at the end of the day. Bill Gross came out in the afternoon and stated that the worst of the credit crisis as far as these banks' balance sheets go, could be over. This would be great news. Monday, the Stock Market will be closed followed by the Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama on Tuesday. Stocks could rally because of this just like what happened leading up to the Election. I think 8500 could be difficult to get through however. I will have more technical analysis of the markets over the weekend, Right Here. Stock to Watch - Palm - continues to surge after the new product was released at the CES.

Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates - 1/16/09 BDI

The following is a report on Dry Bulk Shipping Rates for 1/16/09. This data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers ( EXM ), Diana Shipping ( DSX ), Genco Shipping ( GNX ), TBS International ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), and OceanFreight ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. When Bulk Shipping Rates are as low as they have been lately, it signifies that the world economy has come to a screeching halt.

Dow Jones Analysis 1/16/09 - Stock Market Analysis

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 1/16/09

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - January 16, 2009

Resistance Levels: 8350, 8500, 8765
Support Levels: 8150, 8000, 7965
http://stockcharts.com - Chart

The Dow Jones bounced 250 points off the support level of 8000 today. This is bullish action because it shows you where the buyers are located. Expect this to happen again if 800 is tested. Right now, there is some support at the 8150 level, a level we haven't closed below since November. On the upside, look for selling to hit the market when we get near 8500 and the 50 day moving average ( 8598 ). These will be major resistance levels.

Nasdaq Analysis 1/16/09 January 16, 2009

The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( NAS ) for 1/16/09

Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - January 16, 2009

Resistance Levels: 1551, 1600, 1665

Support Levels: 1500, 1450

http://stockcharts.com - Chart

The Nasdaq tested a major support level today of 1450, hit 1456, and bounced back over 1500. This is very bullish action believe it or not. 1500 now becomes support again and if it is closed below, 1450 will be tested once again. Resistance Levels: The Nasdaq will start to have trouble at or near the 50 day moving average which is currently located at 1539. If this level is broken look for the next resistance level to be at the 10 day moving average, or 1579. The volatility seems to be back so know your support and resistance levels!
