Stock Market 3/8/09 Dow Jones Report

After a horrible week comes to an end, Wall Street must now look ahead for any signs of a stock market bottom or recovery. The Dow Jones started last week at 7062.93 and ended yesterday on a positive note at 6626.94. When it looked like the bottom was going to fall out on the stock market yesterday, we had a nice short squeeze going into the close. This was the first time in 7 trading sessions where we went up into the close versus selling off. Stock market futures were even up in after hours trading as well. Below are some things that I will be watching for next week.

Stock Market Watch List 3/9/09 - 3/14/09

General Motors ( GM ) - Do you hear the clock ticking? General Motors is currently in meetings with bond holders in an effort to reduce their debt by 2/3's before the March 31, 2009 deadline. GM stock fell to a 75 year low yesterday as it closed at $1.45 per share. On Monday, officials from the Obama auto task force will sit down with GM executives in hopes to avoid bankruptcy. General Motors will give the task force members an up close view of the Chevy Volt Hybrid. Besides the stock market crashing in 2009, this could be the number one story soon as Washington comes to a decision. A GM bankruptcy could have huge systemic risk and send the stock market spiralling down once again.

Stem Cell Funding - President Barack Obama is getting set to overturn the ban on Stem Cell research funding by George W Bush. At least $200 million dedicated to stem cell research is part of a fast-tracked federal stimulus grant fund that could deliver money to labs as early as summer's end, said Dr. Arnold Kriegstein, director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UC San Francisco.

Stem Cell Stocks such as Stem Cells ( STEM ), Geron ( GERN ) Aastrom ( ASTM ), and Pluristem Therapeutics ( PSTI ) could be very active on Monday when this news hits.

DryShips ( DRYS ) - DRYS was very strong at the end of last week. After a capitulation move under $3, DRYS ripped back over the 10 day moving average. A break over $4 could start a nice run back to the upside. Keep in mind, DRYS is due to report earnings any day now. This event could make or break DRYS stock price.

Freeport McMoran ( FCX ) - Did anyone notice how strong this stock was yesterday? FCX was up most of the day as the stock market went down. Copper prices have been rising after a nice stabilization period. After hitting a low of 26.32 on Monday, FCX hit a high of $34.39 on Friday!

Freeport McMoran FCX 12/03/08 - Dividend Suspension

Freeport McMoran ( FCX ) is coming out on 12/03/08 and updating investors on their operating plans for a weaker then expected outlook as well as suspending their dividend. FCX stock is really taking a hit this morning in pre market, down 13% to $19. This is a stock that has rallied hard every time the stock market gets a bounce, sometimes as much as 25%.

FCX Analysis - The low of $17.27 must hold or you will probably see Freeport test $15, at that point I think it would be a buy for a trade. FCX will now have resistance at the $20 level...a close over $20 and i'd be bullish but would use a tight stop at this level.

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX)

-- Reduction in Copper Production and Sales of 200 million pounds (5%) in 2009e and 500 million pounds (11%) in 2010e Compared with Previous Estimates

-- 18% Reduction in Estimated 2009 Unit Site Production and Delivery Costs Compared with 2008e

-- $1.2 billion Reduction (50%) in Estimated 2009 Capital Expenditures Compared with Previous Estimates

-- Suspension of Common Stock Dividend

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX) announced today revised operating plans in response to the recent sharp decline in copper and molybdenum prices to incorporate reduced production levels, operating and administrative costs, exploration costs and capital expenditures.
Since completion of the Phelps Dodge acquisition in March 2007, FCX's business strategy has been focused on defining the potential of its resources and developing expansion and growth plans to deliver additional volumes to a growing marketplace. Following the more than $10 billion in debt reduction during 2007, FCX's financial policy was designed to use its cash flows to invest in growth projects with high rates of return and return excess cash flows to shareholders in the form of dividends and share purchases. In response to the dramatic recent shift in global economic conditions, FCX has revised its near-term business strategy.

Potash ( POT ) Stock 10/16/08 FCX

Monday Potash ( POT ) was $115 in pre market....three days later, you can buy Potash ( POT ) at $70. Yes, that's right, Potash is down $45 in three trading days. This is thanks to hedge fund liquidations still going on in the stock market. Look at Freeport McMoran ( FCX ). Down $15 per share since Monday morning.

Someone is selling big time! These stocks don't even rally with the stock market anymore....they go down further.

What to do? Wait for them to break their highs of the day after 10am to jump in.....once the sellers are done selling, these will bounce big time!

General Motors ( GM ) 10/9/08 Dow Jones

General Motors was downgraded to credit watch negative.....plunging ( GM ) shares 30% to close around $4.90 per share.

The Dow Jones Average crashed 678 points today to 8579. So what is the problem? Tons of sellers, and very little buyers. Many big funds are stuck in stocks at significantly higher prices and have been forced to sell....or when we do get a big of a rally, they sell. Today's plunge took about 45 minutes.

A sign that this would happen: Many of the European Banks sold hard into the close earlier today in the Europe markets so that gave me a hint to this happening.

We are due for a major rally off the lows.....1000 - 1500 points but where those lows will be is a good question!

I'd like to see capitulation tomorrow morning so we can finally put in a bottom. I'd like to see a major gap down..... maybe hit 8,000 on the Dow and then a stampede of buying with heavy volume. The problem is we always get these big down days and rally right after them. At this point, we need everyone to puke up stocks and that will attractive big buyers. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we will move higher!

The Asian markets will crash tonight....you will see losses you never would have thought possible. In Asia tonight, it is Friday over there.....last day of trading for the week. They have no idea how we will trade tomorrow so it will be worse for them!

My Stock Shopping List: GOOG, AAPL, FCX, ENER, V, MA....these are the stocks I am looking at buying on the cheap.
