Mark Haines CNBC 3/10/09 Haines Bottom
Mark Haines, CNBC anchor with Erin Burnett, was on CNBC this morning, 3/10/09, and gave comments and stock market predictions. Mark Haines has called , " The Stock Market Bottom " due to various indicators he follows. I guess we are calling this the " Haines Bottom. "
Mark Haines says that the Dow Jones is off 67% of the 200 day moving average and he thinks this is a great place for the market to rally and form a bottom. Haines hasn't called a bottom until today and he feels strongly about his call.
As for Erin Burnett, she seems skeptical about the great Legend Mark Haines calling the bottom for stocks in March of 2009.
Only time will tell! Citigroup is helping Mark out today however!

Dow Jones Close 3/9/09 - Stock Market Closing Prices
Stock Market Closing Prices - 3/9/09
Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) Close - 6547.05 Down 79.89
Nasdaq Stock Market Close - 1268.64 Down 25.21

Gold - 922
Oil - 47.10

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJI ) closed at 6547 on 3/9/09, as the stock market went on another roller coaster ride today. The Dow Jones Futures started the day on a down note but right after the open stocks soared as the bank stocks took off higher. Wells Fargo ( WFC ) went over $10 and Bank of America hit $3.75 after Warren Buffett made some bullish comments on Wells Fargo during a CNBC interview. Also in pre market, shares of Stem Cell Companies went up significantly due to President Obama reversing the restriction on stem cell research. All of the Stem Cell Stocks opened up higher but sold off throughout the day. On a positive note, Dryships ( DRYS ) is breaking out above $4 per share. This is a technical break out but earnings have yet to be released so I am wary.
Oil prices were strong today, March 9th, as there may be another OPEC cut coming this weekend. The price of Oil closed on the Nymex at $47.10. Gold prices went the opposite way as it appears another retest of $900 is right around the corner.
Wall Street still has the flu! Every stock rally we get is sold and we end up going lower. Art Cashin, floor trader on the NYSE, says we are close to a capitulation move in which we could get a reversal upward. Art says he would like to see a big down day tomorrow followed by a sharp rebound. I continue to look for that capitulation move where people give up causing prices to go sharply lower. This is what we need in order for declare a stock market bottom for 2009. Support for the Dow Jones is currently at 6300 and on the Nasdaq I am watching 1253.

Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates 3/9/09 BDI
The following is a report on Dry Bulk Shipping Rates for 3/9/09. This data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers ( EXM ), Diana Shipping ( DSX ), Genco Shipping ( GNX ), TBS International ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), and OceanFreight ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. When Bulk Shipping Rates are as low as they have been lately, it signifies that the world economy has come to a screeching halt!

Dow Jones Analysis 3/9/09 Stock Market Analysis

Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - March 9, 2009
Resistance Levels: 6750, 7000, 7449, 7500, 7552
Support Levels: 6500, 6310, 6000
http://stockcharts.com/ - Chart
The Dow Jones broke to a new 52 week low yesterday but snapped back into positive territory at the end of the day. This is very bullish action but was only one day. We will have to see if there is any follow through on Monday. There is major support in the 6300-6500 area so this is where I have been buying. If this support level is broken, I'd expect 6000 to be tested. Resistance is around the 6750 and 7000 level. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Stock Market 3/8/09 Dow Jones Report
After a horrible week comes to an end, Wall Street must now look ahead for any signs of a stock market bottom or recovery. The Dow Jones started last week at 7062.93 and ended yesterday on a positive note at 6626.94. When it looked like the bottom was going to fall out on the stock market yesterday, we had a nice short squeeze going into the close. This was the first time in 7 trading sessions where we went up into the close versus selling off. Stock market futures were even up in after hours trading as well. Below are some things that I will be watching for next week.
Stock Market Watch List 3/9/09 - 3/14/09
General Motors ( GM ) - Do you hear the clock ticking? General Motors is currently in meetings with bond holders in an effort to reduce their debt by 2/3's before the March 31, 2009 deadline. GM stock fell to a 75 year low yesterday as it closed at $1.45 per share. On Monday, officials from the Obama auto task force will sit down with GM executives in hopes to avoid bankruptcy. General Motors will give the task force members an up close view of the Chevy Volt Hybrid. Besides the stock market crashing in 2009, this could be the number one story soon as Washington comes to a decision. A GM bankruptcy could have huge systemic risk and send the stock market spiralling down once again.
Stem Cell Funding - President Barack Obama is getting set to overturn the ban on Stem Cell research funding by George W Bush. At least $200 million dedicated to stem cell research is part of a fast-tracked federal stimulus grant fund that could deliver money to labs as early as summer's end, said Dr. Arnold Kriegstein, director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UC San Francisco.
Stem Cell Stocks such as Stem Cells ( STEM ), Geron ( GERN ) Aastrom ( ASTM ), and Pluristem Therapeutics ( PSTI ) could be very active on Monday when this news hits.
DryShips ( DRYS ) - DRYS was very strong at the end of last week. After a capitulation move under $3, DRYS ripped back over the 10 day moving average. A break over $4 could start a nice run back to the upside. Keep in mind, DRYS is due to report earnings any day now. This event could make or break DRYS stock price.
Freeport McMoran ( FCX ) - Did anyone notice how strong this stock was yesterday? FCX was up most of the day as the stock market went down. Copper prices have been rising after a nice stabilization period. After hitting a low of 26.32 on Monday, FCX hit a high of $34.39 on Friday!

Nasdaq Analysis 3/9/09 March 9, 2009

Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 9, 2009
Resistance Levels: 1315, 1362, 1400, 1456
Support Levels: 1253.22, 1193.42, 1108.49
http://stockcharts.com - Chart
The Nasdaq broke a new 52 week low today and had nice rally at the end of the day but failed to close back over the 1295.48 level. This is very bearish. I may jump in if we break 1320 on Monday for a ride back to the 10 day moving average. If we get more selling in Monday, keep an eye on 1253 as we doubled bottomed there back in 2002. A break below this would open the flood gates of selling. I will start getting bullish again when we close back over the 10 day moving average. This moving average will be around 1355 on Monday.
