The Stock Market was up big this week with financials leading the charge. The Dow Jones, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 were up four straight days starting on Tuesday. Check out my technical analysis for Monday. As you can see, we are approaching major resistance areas near the 50 day moving average.
Stock Market Report - March 14, 2009
Next week will be an interesting week as we see if these recent stock market gains can hold. Sunday night Ben Bernanke will kick things off with an appearance on 60 minutes. He will follow things up with a Fed meeting on 3/17 & 3/18.
General Motors ( GM ) - So GM stock rallied big this week going from about $1.55 to $2.85, closing at $2.72. General Motors told the Government they will not need the 2 billion in March as their cost cutting measures working. However, they will still need to huge loan to get by and it could be as much as 14.6 billion.
GM, struggling to avoid bankruptcy amid a global sales slump, has been surviving on the federal loan it won in late December. The administration's auto task force faces a March 31 deadline to decide whether to give GM and Chrysler additional loans.
GM News afterhours 3/13/09 - GM stock down 12% tonight as they try to get Europe to bail them out. GM, which is on the verge of bankruptcy and bailed out by the U.S. government, is seeking for a 3.3-billion-euro bailout for Opel, GM Europe's major part, from European governments while looking for buyers. Also, GM Recalls 277,000 Vehicles For Gear Problem.
TALF - What is Talf? Next week, the deadline for the first wave a TALF will close. The Fed announced it was extending TALF by two business days. This announcement extends the deadline for recording TALF loans until the close of business on March 19. The settlement/disbursement date remains March 25 for this first wave of TALF lending. The TALF seems to be the lone Government program that might actually work!

Dow Jones Analysis 3/16/09 Stock Market Analysis
The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 3/16/09
Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - March 16, 2009 - DJI
Resistance Levels: 7449, 7500, 7824, 8000
Support Levels: 7000, 6822, 6500, 6310, 6000
http://stockcharts.com/ - Chart
The Dow Jones has gone up 4 straight days which hasn't happened since the end of November. The Dow will have some resistance at the previous low of 7449 and also 7500. If the Dow Jones can close above these levels, I think it could retest 8000 where the major resistance is.
Dow 7000 now acts as a nice support level, a close below this and we will retest the lows once again. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average will be a good area to buy as well. The stock market will face a lot of economic data and events ( Fed Meeting, TALF, Market to Market, ect ) next week so it could get very intersting! For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

Nasdaq Analysis 3/16/09 March 16, 2009
The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( IXIC ) for 3/16/09
Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 16, 2009
Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 16, 2009
Resistance Levels: 1480, 1500, 1600
Support Levels: 1400, 1344, 1300, 1253.22
http://stockcharts.com - Chart
The Nasdaq has gone up 4 straight days and has closed all 4 days above the 10 day moving average. Resistance will be around 1480 ( 50 day moving average ) and 1500. If the Nasdaq gets above 1500 there will be a lot of sellers willing to unload, so its hard for me to see it going that far in such a short amount of time. Support is at the 10 day moving average around 1345. I would be buying a pullback at this level and I strongly believe it will be tested in the coming weeks, although it will be much higher. This will be the first big test! For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

We have now closed higher four consecutive days. The Dow Jones Futures opened the day higher on more good Citigroup ( C ) news. There was an attempt to sell the stock market off around 11am but stocks then recovered going into the afternoon hours. Some of the hottest stocks today were GM, LVS, and STEC. Also worth noting, Palm ( PALM ) closing back above $8. Palm reports earnings next week. Art Cashin 3/13/09 March 13, 2009 - Rally
Art Cashin, floor trader on the NYSE, was on CNBC this morning and gave several stock market related comments on what he is seeing.
Art Cashin Comments -3/13/09
Should we be worried because we've rallied so much?
We do have to have some concern, this is starting to look like a crowded trade - all of a sudden everyone is bullish on the stock market.
Also Volume is holding up only on short covering - you see heavy volume going into the bank sector but light volume everywhere else.
We closed at the top yesterday, closing at the top is usually followed by sideways action or down
I guess this rally needs to prove itself!
