Dow Jones Analysis 3/13/09 Stock Market Analysis
The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 3/13/09
Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - March 13, 2009 - DJI
http://stockcharts.com/ - Chart
Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - March 13, 2009 - DJI
Resistance Levels: 7449, 7500, 7552, 7853
Support Levels: 7000, 6822, 6500, 6310, 6000
http://stockcharts.com/ - Chart
The Dow Jones had another great day and continues to break out after closing above the 10 day moving average on Monday. The next resistance level I am looking at is 7449 which is the previous 52 week low before the 6469.95 low was made. A close over this level would be huge and would take the Dow back to the 50 day moving average of 7853. The Dow Jones now has support at the 7000 level and the 10 day moving average at 6822. Nasdaq Analysis 3/13/09 March 13, 2009
The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( IXIC ) for 3/13/09
Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 13, 2009
Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 13, 2009
Resistance Levels: 1456, 1483, 1500, 1600
Support Levels: 1400, 1340, 1300, 1253.22, 1193.42, 1108.49
http://stockcharts.com - Chart
The Nasdaq has had an explosive move higher this week and is now above 1400. This level will now become support and when you see a break below 1400, chances are we go back to retest the 10 day moving average at 1340. I am skeptical of the quickness of this move and believe we will test the 10 day moving average soon but it will probably be a lot higher then 1340. The Nasdaq is now in the middle of oversold and overbought. If 1400 continues to hold, look for the 50 day moving average to be tested, a close over this would be huge! Dow Jones Close 3/12/09 - Stock Market Closing Prices
Stock Market Closing Prices - 3/12/09
Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) Close - 7170.06 Up 239.66
Nasdaq Stock Market Close - 1426.10 Up 54.46
S&P 500 Close - 750.73 Up 29.37
http://dowjonesclose.com
Libor Rates - 3/12/09
Commodities Closing Prices - 3/12/09
Gold - 926.80
Oil - 46.85
Natural Gas - 4.01
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7170 on 3/12/09, as the stock market exploded to the upside on better then expected bad news on General Electric ( GE ) this morning. GE's credit rating was downgraded which is very bad but remains in stable condition. The Dow Jones Futures were down over 100 points this morning but then we got a good retail sales number followed by the above GE news. During the afternoon hours, stocks exploded higher as shorts scrambled to cover. All of the sudden, everyone loves financials again. Financial Bull 3X ( FAS ) stock hit a high of $5.18 and is up 108% since Monday. Wells Fargo ( WFC ) hit $14 and is up 80% since Friday. Bank of America ( BAC ) hit $6 and is up 100% since Friday. Whoa! Not sure how long this can last after the carnage we saw last week but it is definitely and eye opener.
All major averages have now closed over the 10 day moving average for 3 straight days. On Tuesday, we got the first signal that this rally was for real when the Dow closed over the 10 day moving average. I would be a little cautious jumping in here however because nothing has really changed and we've gone up so much in such a short period of time. I am eyeing Financial Bear 3X ( FAZ ) when this rally runs out of steam.

Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates 3/12/09 BDI
The following is a report on Dry Bulk Shipping Rates for 3/12/09. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. Art Cashin 3/12/09 March 12, 2009 - SP 500
Art Cashin, floor trader on the NYSE, was on CNBC this morning and gave several stock market related comments on what he is seeing.
Art Cashin Comments -3/12/09
Art, what do you think about the mark to market rule?
On Mark to Market - we saw futures tick up on the PA congressman's comments on suspending the accounting rule. If they can pull it off you could see this rally have legs. We are pushing for an adjustment or suspension of the mark to market rule....its not to cover up things, its to prevent ridiculous pricing of things in the market place
What is your opinion of the stock market right now?
I think what we want to watch is 740-745 on the S&P 500...Also support is 713 and we need to stay above 700. On the Dow, we have resistance at 7000-7025
Things are getting interesting!

Stock Market Report March 12 2009 3/12/09
The Dow Jones and Stock Market Futures are pointing to a lower open as world stock markets went lower overnight.
Stock Market Report 3/12/09
- On Thursday, revised figures showed that Japan's economy, the world's second largest, suffered its biggest contraction in 35 years in the fourth quarter. Gross domestic product shrank at 12.1 percent annual rate in the October-December period, less than the Cabinet Office's preliminary reading of a 12.7 percent contraction, but still confirming a serious recession.
- Roche ( ROG ) and Genentech ( DNA ) Reach a Friendly Agreement to Combine the Two Organizations and Create a Leader in Healthcare Innovation.
- Roche intends to acquire all outstanding shares of Genentech for $95.00 per share in cash
- Oil prices: Oil Prices are rising this morning after getting crushed yesterday. Oil is higher by .90 to $43.23 in early trading.
- Gold Prices: Gold prices are rising as well on March 12, 2009. Gold is back at the $917 level.
- Key Stock Movers: Financial Bear 3x ( FAZ ) stock is up 7% to $60 per share as the financials are indicated weaker today. Financial Bull ( FAS ) stock is down 6.37% to $3.76. Along with these two stocks, HSBC ( HBC ) is up 5% to $24.84 and Citigroup ( C ) is down 5.84% to $1.45
- 10 Day Moving Average: The stock market indexes appear like they will test their 10 day moving averages today. The 10 day moving average should offer some nice support and this is where i'd expect new buyers to be located. If we close two days under the 10 day, this rally could be in serious trouble. Today will be a big test!
- Mark to Market: Today there will be a Congressional Hearing on mark to market. This is just a hearing to gather facts, this rule will not be changed today.
- Bernie Madoff: Bernie Madoff just got dropped off in Manhattan courthouse which could be his last steps as a free man. Madoff is expected to plead guilty on a $50 billion stock market ponzi scheme. Some of the victims will be present and they will be making statements to him.
