The Dow Jones continues the recent uptrend closing over the 10 day moving average once again. I continue to watch this moving average ( now at 7997 ) for any signs of a correction. 8000 is now an even more critical level on a closing basis. Bank of America, a Dow component, will release earnings on Monday. All signs point to the Dow testing the 8300-8500 before a major correction

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8133 on 4/17/09, as the stock market went higher on decent earnings out of General Electric ( GE ) and Citigroup ( C ). Bank of America ( BAC ) is on deck for Monday. The Dow Jones Futures fluctuated between positive and negative with the stock market averages trading down most of the morning. Stocks turned around as usual in the afternoon but gave back most of the gains by the close of trading. DryShips ( DRYS ) was a real standout Friday going up almost 30% as the company raised 500 million in new capital. Wells Fargo ( WFC ) had a great week after preannouncing earnings last Thursday. Bank of America ( BAC ) Earnings April 20, 2009 - 8am EST
Stocks to Watch - 4/20/09 - Stock Market Ideas
Financials: Financials continue their surge ahead of one more key bank earnings report scheduled for Monday which would be Bank of America ( BAC ). After the number is released, you could get a pre market pop, but then I think you will see the sellers hit B of A stock as they did to Citigroup ( C ) Friday. They also did this to Goldman Sachs ( GS ). I am done trading Financial Bull 3x ( FAS ) above $9 and have switched to trading Financial Bear 3x ( FAZ ). I feel this surge in financial stocks is almost through for the short term and it is more risky to be holding FAS then FAZ. We have maybe another 30 points upside in the S&P to 900 but I honestly can't see it staying above 900 for long.
DryShips ( DRYS ) - DRYS continues to surge and is now officially breaking out to the upside after busting up through the $6.17 resistance which I spoke about on Thursday. I am now watching $7.38 for signs of yet another break out.
Dendreon ( DNDN ) - DNDN stock is ripping back into the $18's Friday. This could very well set up for a new surge on Monday. I will be watching this stock closely. Check out what analysts are saying.
Conexant Systems Inc. (CNXT) - Whoa! Big afternoon rally for CNXT on Friday. Somebody wants in and I wouldn't mind going along for the ride if they aren't done buying. CNXT earnings are right around the corner.
Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. (PSUN) - PACSUN was also surging in the afternoon trading session Friday. No news that I can find, another oversold retailer bouncing higher. Watch PSUN Monday!

The Stock Market is digesting earnings of out Citigroup ( C ) and General Electric ( GE ) Friday as Wall Street is slightly down. As you probably know, this could all change quickly. The stock market seems to sell off in the morning and surge in the late afternoon hours. The busiest week for earnings will start on Monday, April 20 2009. With no real economic data due out on Monday, below is a list of the companies I follow that will release earnings. Bank of America could be a market mover.

Citi Reports First Quarter Revenues of $24.8 Billion
- Net Income of $1.6 Billion, Loss Per Share of $0.18
- Positive EPS Excluding The $0.24 Impact of Resetting The Conversion Price of Certain Preferred Shares
- Net Income Primarily Driven by Improved Performance in Institutional Clients Group and Continued Expense Reductions

As far as Citigroup's stock price goes, the real test will be $5 per share. If they can push Citi through $5 and close the stock over $5, big institutional money will start to flow back in. Keep in mind, this all started with a break up through $3 last week. The only thing I really got wrong was how the market reacted to earnings today. This earnings report has every possible good thing added ( market to market ect ), just wait until the third quarter!! As for now, as long as Citi remains over $4 you can trade it from the long side.

As you can see, Libor Rates have changed today, April 17, 2009. The overnight and 3 month libor dropped while the 1 month libor rose.
