Carter Worth CNBC: Bearish Sell Stocks or Short

Carter Worth, Chief Technical Analyst at Oppenheimer came on CNBC this afternoon and told viewers the run is over ( for now ).

Worth says that while the past six weeks looked nice, stocks are way ahead of themselves and its time to sell or even short!

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones failed to hold 8000 earlier today and collapsed at the end of the day. The Dow Jones has now closed below the 10 day moving average for the third straight day, something that hasn't happened since we hit the March lows. I am watching 7750 which has been a strong support level. If we close below 7750, a new downtrend will start. Carter Worth caused the late day sell off when he said sell sell sell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7887 on 4/22/09, as the stock market went down on better then expected earnings out of Wells Fargo ( WFC ) and AT&T ( T ) but see the Carter Worth comments below. The Dow Jones Futures were originally down big after Morgan Stanley ( MS ) came out was worse then expected earnings. As usual, stocks rebounded during the morning hours and ripped higher in the afternoon. The Dow Jones struggled to hold 8000 which was broken on Monday. General Motors ( GM ) said today they wouldn't be able to make their June debt payment. This brings GM one step closer to bankruptcy. I honestly don't know how the market isn't down on this news because in my opinion a GM bankruptcy would be a disaster! Tonight we get a market moving earnings report out of Apple Inc ( AAPL ) followed by Amazon ( AMZN ) Thursday.

Stocks tanked going into the close as Carter Worth said on CNBC that it is time to sell stocks and the ride is over for the short term. Carter Worth is the Chief Technician at Oppenheimer that had some amazing calls over the past 6 months.

Stocks to Watch - 4/23/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Financials: The financial stocks such as Citigroup ( C ), Bank of America ( BAC ), Wells Fargo ( WFC ), Financials Bull 3x ( FAS ), and Financial Bear 3x ( FAZ ) were all over the place on Wednesday. Expect the volatility to continue! FAS has short term support at $7 and $6.00.

Lear Corp. (LEA) - Lear broke out to the upside Wednesday on no news. LEA now trades above the 10 day moving average at $0.93. I will be watching for a break back up through $1.00 before I start trading this stock.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC broke out on huge volume Wednesday on no news. The volume was 5 times normal daily volume. Looking at the charts, CTIC has support around $0.37-$0.38 and resistance between $0.43-$0.45 as well as $0.49. For some reason, CTIC has been a very popular stock lately. We could be looking at the start of a nice break out!

Stock Market April 23, 2009 4/23/09

The Stock Market was on fire Wednesday after earnings reports out of Wells Fargo ( WFC ) and AT&T ( T ). Shares of General Electric ( GE ) were up 5% to $12.28 which helped the Dow Jones rise.

All eyes will be on Apple ( AAPL ) which reports Wednesday evening. This earnings report will set the tone for trading on Thursday, April 23rd.

Spansion Inc. (SPSN) - $0.22 Up 32.35% - Spansion to Pursue Standalone Strategy Focused on Embedded Solutions Market

Lear Corp. (LEA) - $0.84 Up 21.74% - No News

Oscient Pharmaceuticals Corp. (OSCI) - $0.14 Up 30.24% - No News

SIRIUS XM Radio Inc. (SIRI) - $0.45 Up 10.73% - SIRI stock ran up to resistance at $0.57 -$0.60 and then crashed back to support. Siri could have topped out but I like the stock as long as it stays over both 10 & 50 day moving averages.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - $0.36 Up 20.20% - Genes Identified That Enhance Tumor Cell Sensitivity to CTI's Cancer Drug Brostallicin. This news was released yesterday but people are piling back into CTIC this morning. A break through $0.45 would be huge and then I think CTIC could get back into the $0.50's and above. Watching CTIC closely again!!
