Chesapeake Energy Corporation (CHK) appears to have made a double bottom on Friday with a reversal on Monday. This reversal was due to an upgrade on Southwestern Energy Co. (SWN) from Goldman Sachs. Natural Gas has been getting crushed lately but this is due to a lull in demand as the heating season ends. I started a long position in Chesapeake Energy on Monday and will add when the stock closes back over each of the three moving averages. If Chesapeake falls below $22 at any time, I will sell half.

Chesapeake Energy CHK Upgraded 12/08/08 - JP Morgan

Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) has come out today, 12/8/08, and slashed their shelf offering to 25 million shares from 50 million shares. The company also said they are exploring the sale of their Fayetteville Shale properties to raise cash.

These activities have caused two firms to upgrade CHK stock and Chesapeake is up 30% in pre market to $14.85 per share.

Dow Jones Open 11/28/08 - Stock Market

Today, 11/28/08, the Dow Jones and Stock Market's are opening up flat to down as investors appear to be taking profits after a nice last 4 trading sessions of gains. Keep in mind, this is a light volume trading session as most traders are not in the office today. The stock markets close at 1pm est. There doesn't appear to be much action but some of the biggest gainers include General Motors ( GM ), Ford ( F ), Citigroup ( C ), Fannie Mae ( FNM ) , and Freddie Mack ( FRE ). Chesapeake ( CHK ) seems to have stopped dropping just under $16 but I won't be trying to catch this falling knife. There are much better buys out there like Devon ( DVN ) and Anadarko ( APC ) if I want to get involved with the drillers. Baidu.com ( BIDU ) is also weak today, It has support at around $131 for a trade.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9139 on 11/05/08, as investors woke up to a new President and a reality check that our Economy is very bad right now. The ADP Employment figure came out this morning and it was horrible, reducing US payrolls by 157,000. The Jobs Number on Friday will be even worse! First we need to get past tomorrow's Retail Sales number which is going to be ugly! Starting to get the picture? We had a great rally, but things are still grim out there, you have to be cautious! Check out the Dow Jones Chart that I made today and the price points that I am watching for the Dow. Let us all hope 9000 holds when we test it again, unless you are short of coarse!
The Stock Market Futures were down slightly this morning, The Dow Jones futures were only down 70 points in pre market trading but selling quickly hit the market when stocks opened. The Dow Jones was pretty much down around 300 during the afternoon hours and it got worse in the last hour. Steel Stocks and Technology Stocks were very weak today, especially Apple ( AAPL ), Google ( GOOG ), and Amazon.com ( AMZN ). The Solar Stocks such as First Solar ( FSLR ) and Energy Conversion Devices ( ENER ) were weak today after going up all week long. Meredith Whitney came on CNBC at 3:30pm and gave some comments on the Financial Stocks, this really hit the market hard during her talk on the closing bell. Her comments are a must read!

Biggest Stock Gainers - November 5th, 2008

The hottest stock today was Radian Group ( RDN ). This company came out with some nice earnings which caused the stock to spike higher.

Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) was outstanding today. There are rumors that BP is looking at the company as far as a buyout. This sent shares of Chesapeake Energy up 16% at one point. CHK was strong all day with heavy volume. Major pullbacks should be bought if you get them. I see $30's in the near future unless the market tanks again.

How about Jim Cramer's call on MasterCard ( MA ) yesterday, only 24 hours left to go Jim!

Dow Jones Open 11/05/08 - Stock Market Today

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) and Stock Market opened today 11/05/08, the day after the US elected Barack Obama the 44th President, sharply lower. The Dow Jones opened the trading session down 150 points to 9475, The Nasdaq opened down 24 to 1755, and the S&P 500 average opened up lower by 15 to 990.
The ADP employment report gave a dose of reality to the stock markets today, down over 150,000. This paints a grim picture of what the nonfarm payrolls report could look like on Friday, November 7th, 2008. Keep an eye on the S&P 500 targets from Art Cashin last week.

The Steel stocks are very weak today after Archelor Mittal Steel gave horrible guidance for what steel prices will do in the future. These Steel Stocks are very weak today, MT, US Steel ( X ), Nucor ( NUE ). Keep an eye on the steel sector.

Biggest Gainers 11/05/08 - Hot Stocks

Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) - I can't help but mention this stock first, it is breaking out hard to the upside with strong volume this morning. As I mentioned in my technical analysis, you get a CHK close over $25 you could be looking at a huge rip higher in stock price. Watch this stock! The CEO could be buying his shares back that he was forced to dump!

Radian Group RDN is breaking out on positive earnings, this is the hottest stock today.

Oil and Natural Gas Prices Up 11/04/08

Today, 11/04/08, Oil and Natural Gas prices are rising with the stock market. At 11:45est time, the price of Oil is up $5.35 to $69.25 and the price of Natural Gas is surging .44 to $7.28. This is the first time natural gas has traded above $7 for some time now. As you probably know, in July 2008 Oil was over $140 per barrel and Natural Gas was around $14. This caused a huge shale drilling boom in the United States and Canada. People in Louisiana and East Texas were striking it rich with the Haynesville Shale. People in Pennsylvania were striking it rich with the Marcellus Shale. People in North Dakota were striking it rich with the Bakken Shale.

Could this finally be the turn up in energy prices? If the stock market continues to surge, look for energy prices to follow. The companies drilling each of these shale plays will see their stock prices run back up. Pre Market Trading - Stock Market 10/16/08, Citigroup C Earnings, CHK

After a wild week, Citigroup ( C ) delivered some better then expected earnings ( or lack there of ) This morning, 10/16/08, Citi lost .60 cents per share, or 2.81 Billion for the 3rd quarter.

Total assets declined by 50 billion since the 2nd quarter. Yes, this report looks grim, but Citigroup ( C ) will in fact survive and that is making the stock rise a bit in pre market trading to $16.87.

Stocks to Watch 10/16/08:

Watch Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ). Again yesterday, this stock was crushed, but I'm seeing some signs of early bidders coming back to the stock. You could potentially catch a nice gain in this stock if you play it right. Buy the stock when it breaks the high of day. Chesapeake Energy is a major driller in the best natural gas field, Haynesville Shale

Google ( GOOG ) reports earnings tonight.....this will be a stock to watch also. EBay reported in line earnings last night but their guidance was horrible. Google does not give guidance.

CHK Chesapeake Energy 9/15/08 Technical Analysis

Technical Analysis for Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) - Support and Resistance Levels

CHK has been a stock that has gotten hammered with lower energy prices. Chesapeake appears to have made a new low last week at $38.10. This low is support for now and it appears as though a reverse head and shoulders pattern is forming with $38.10 being the top of the head. This formation signifies a bear trend bottom and when the last shoulder is formed, the stock forms a bullish breakout and starts a new uptrend.

It is a bit early to tell this but the ingredients are coming together as the winter heating season is upon us. I am looking to get long on a close over $42.50 in which you could easily see a run back to the $48-$50 level.

Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) has great fundamentals and at below $40 per share, you are getting the biggest shale play, The Haynesville Shale, for free!

Stock Market 9/09 Update - Stocks to Watch FSLR, LEH, AAPL

Today has been another interesting day....Lehman ( LEH ) is getting drilled, down 30%. I think this would be the last one to go and then the market can reverse for the long term. By last to go I mean, Bear Sterns ( BSC ) Fannie Mae ( FNM ) & Freddie Mac ( FRE ). If Lehman got taken over or bailed out.....the market can finally look forward instead of fearing the above companies and how it effects selling in the stocks they own. Look at GOOG, CHK, FSLR, ENER, AAPL.....these companies are getting sold off for no reason....and they do not bounce when the market goes up. These are good solid companies trade at fair valuations. Forced selling has the most to do with these stocks.

These are the stocks you will want to be trading....and when the market starts to turn, these will be your leaders as money will again flow back into them. You can add Mastercard ( MA ) and Visa ( V ) in this bunch as well.

First Solar will break back to the upside when it breaks $208......ENER when it breaks back over $56.50....keep in eye on these for some nice swing trades!

Bidu - Baidu.com : I bought BIDU and GOOG 8/20

Yesterday I made some purchases......BIDU at $304 and GOOG at $490.......I took profits in the past two day in XTO, CHK, CLR. They will most likely continue going up with Oil but I wanted to regroup and take profits. If they dip at all, I will be back in!

I bought BIDU because the company is growing very fast and it continues to blowout quarterly earnings. Baidu revealed they are taking even more market share from competitors in China. Baidu.com only trades at 45 times 2009 earnings which is cheap compared to how fast it is growing. If you missed the Google ( GOOG ) IPO, here is your chance!

I bought GOOG because this is the time of the year you want to be in the stock. You accumulate in the summer sell in December. Google under $500 has always been a steal!

Keep in mind, I have taken half positions on both....if we get dips, I will continue to add.

These are my two stocks for the rest of the year....the Garmin had to go the second they said Nuvifone was delayed. I will look at Garmin ( GRMN ) again in the future.
