Jim Cramer of CNBC said during his Stop Trading segment that you have to see Jp Morgan ( JPM ) go into the $20's before you can declare a " stock market bottom" for 2009 and declare today's rally more then a bear market bounce. Keep an eye on JPM stock as we trade over the next several weeks.
Keep in mind, Jim Cramer was not bullish over the past week when his friend Doug Kass made bottom statements for the S&P 500. The Doug Kass bottom is actually 693 on the S&P 500 which we broke but are now trading over 710 today on the Citigroup ( C ) news. Although, Cramer notes that the uptick rule would make him bullish.

Bank Stocks 1/15/09 - January 15, 2009
News that Bank of America ( BAC ) is needing more Government Aid started circulating last night and Jp Morgan ( JPM ) reported better then expected earnings of .07 EPS this morning. Despite the JP Morgan news, banking stocks are taking a nose dive this morning, 1/15/09. This really all started last week when Citigroup ( C ) started to break down.
The S&P 500 has support between 815-820, so if you love financial stocks down here, it could be a great place to take a shot. I will not be getting involved however until things start to improve.
Bank of America ( BAC ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $7.35 - Current Price $8.08
JP Morgan ( JPM ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $24.75 - Current Price $26.01
Citigroup ( C ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $3.36 - Current Price $3.71
UBS ( UBS ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $11.81 - Current Price $11.90
Goldman Sachs ( GS ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $69.00 - Current Price $71.57
Morgan Stanley ( MS ) - January 15, 2009 Low - $15.25 - Current Price $15.65

Meredith Whitney CNBC 11/05/08 - Citigroup C
Meredith Whitney was on CNBC today, 11/05/08 ( November 5th, 2008 ) Here are some of her comments:
Financials and Economy are so far off the tracks right now....
Where are we in the Financial Sector?
We are in a new part of the cycle, going forward, there will be contraction in the overall mortgage market - credit card lines are going to shrink, credit will be taken away from companies, we've never seen this before, also we have an economy that is not doing good right now. Earnings estimates on Wall Street are still to high.
How much is priced in?
Citigroup ( C ), Wells Fargo ( WFC ), Bank of America ( BAC ), JP Morgan ( JPM ), I think these companies still have further down to go, we are in for a rude awakening, I see a slow grind down for these stocks. I think Citigroup goes into the single digits. The stock prices in the financial sector are still way to high, wait for lower prices.
Meredith warned people in August before this whole downturn, so I always find what she has to say interesting. She called this financial crisis before anyone about a year ago....she has even received death threats, but she has been right!
