The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7776 on 3/27/09, as the stock market fell on profit taking and banking concerns. Profit taking hit stocks in early trading and then JP Morgan CEO and Bank of America CEO said that things are not looking as good as prior quarters. The Dow Jones Futures opened very weak and then stock market continued weaker throughout the day. Several attempts to rally failed and Citigroup ( C ) stock closed below both the 10 & 50 day moving averages. If you remember, Citi CEO Vikram Pandit started this whole rally with his profitability comments in early March. The last financial meltdown started with Citigroup breaking down. This is something to watch next week!
Next week will be a critical week. A lot of people are saying the strong buying we saw this week was due to window dressing. Window dressing is Mutual Funds buying the winners so that they show up in their quarterly statements when they are mailed at the end of the quarter. If this theory is correct, we will see a sell-off early next week. On Friday, April 3rd, we get the March jobs report. This data will be a stock market mover.
One of the best stocks today was Dryships ( DRYS ). Every major dip was bought today and the volume was heavy.

Window Dressing: You are seeing some window dressing - Fund managers are seeing this sharp rally and its making headlines, - they are attempting to buy the winners so they show up in their portfolios ( when the statements go out ). Today may be the last important day...we will see what happens at the end of the day.
Raise Cash? I thought there would be a powerful rally weeks ago, there might be a little bit of steam left in this rally. 70% of stocks are above 50 day moving average, when you see 80% the rally starts to die. We might have a change in direction around Easter...just not sure which way yet.
Shorts have had fear placed back on their plate...I think they are nervous now but if we get another dip, they might try and push it down once again.

The following is Technical Analysis for the Dow Jones ( DJIA ) for 3/27/09Dow Jones Support & Resistance Levels - March 27, 2009
Resistance Levels: 8000, 8250
Support Levels: 7752, 7602, 7500

The Dow Jones continues to rally and is about the test the key resistance level of 8000. This area will be the first Major test of the Dow Jones. A close above 8000 would bring in additional buying and allow you to move your stop loss order up. The 10 day moving average is ready to cross up though the 50 day moving average, a technical signal that is very bullish. On the downside, I will trade from the short side on a close below the 50 day moving average. The downtrend line is still far away so I'm not ready to call a bottom quite yet like I did for the Nasdaq today. For More Technical Analysis - Go Here

The following is Technical Analysis for the Nasdaq ( IXIC ) for 3/26/09, 3/27/09Nasdaq Support & Resistance Levels - March 26, 2009, March 27, 2009
Resistance Levels: 1600, 1665
The Nasdaq is ripping higher after bouncing off the 10 day moving average yesterday. It appears the Nasdaq bottom is finally in but the rally has gotten ahead of itself. The next major resistance level is 1600 which will be no easy task. Pullbacks to the 10 day moving average can now be bought but I would be selling a close below the 50 day moving average. I don't even see the Nasdaq going back to below 1375 thats how big this recent move has been.
Bottom Line - Buy pullbacks at the 10 and 50 day moving averages with a tight stop on a close below the 50 day moving average.
Research in Motion ( RIMM ) Upgraded by Goldman Sachs - Buy ahead of Earnings - RIMM back above the 50 day moving average
Google ( GOOG ) - Upgraded $450 price target - Canaccord Adams
