June Jobs Report - July 2, 2009 7/2/09

At 8:30am EST today ( 7/2/09 ) we will be getting the June 2009 employment data and unemployment rate. We will also be getting last weeks initial claims data. As soon as the news hits, I will be updating this blog post with the jobs data.

Unemployment Rate: 9.5%

Initial Claims: 614,000

Initial Jobless Claims - 6/25/09 June 25, 2009

Green Shoots? More like Weeds! Initial Jobless Claims from last week were 627,000, up significantly! Wall Street was expecting an under 600,000 reading.

Final GDP was ( -5.5% ) for the first quarter.

Stock Market futures are falling on this news with the Dow Jones set to open down 35.

Stock Market Futures 11/26/08 - Dow Jones

The Stock Market and Dow Jones Futures are lower on 11/26/08, as we have had a huge three day run and it appears investors are taking a little bit of profits before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Things could get even worse later as initial jobless claims come out at 8:30am est as well as New Home Sales at 10am est. Meredith Whitney gave some comments this morning on Bloomberg, make sure you check those out.

Check out my Dow Jones Technical Analysis for today. I will be watching the 8280-8300 closely.
