The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9093 on 7/24/09, as the stock market was flat with exception to the Nasdaq after some worse then expected earnings last night. Netflix, Inc. (NFLX), Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), and Broadcom Corp. (BRCM) were all trading lower Friday after releasing earnings Thursday night. The Dow Jones Futures opened the day down but things really improved throughout the day. The stock market seems very strong right now as fund managers who are underweight stocks allocate capital into the equity market. I'm not sure where or when this huge rally will end but so far in July there have been 12 bank failures, data I watch very closely. It seems that each month that goes by, the bank failures rise. The latest bank faliure was Temecula Valley Bancorp Inc. (TMCV) which is now delisted. I will keep you updated on this failure list as more data comes in. Next week we will get a sleuth of economic data as well as more earnings. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Monday.

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. It seems as though everyone is watching Libor rates these days. Today's Libor Rates for 7/24/09, are: 1 Month Libor Rate - 0.285%. & 3 Month Libor Rate - 0.502%. The overnight Libor rate is 0.223%. As you can see, Libor Rates have changed today, July 24, 2009. While the 1 month libor rate continues to stay the same, the 3 month and overnight libor rates dropped today.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones hit a new 2009 high today but earnings after the bell were horrible and I expect a retest of 9000 and lower tomorrow. Pullbacks to 8878 are interesting but i'd much rather wait for a retest of the 50 and 200 day moving averages. As I have been saying, a break above 9000 would be a great selling opportunity, we got it, now I am looking for the Dow to retest these moving averages and we will go from there. Today looked like buyers were chasing the market.

Stocks to Watch - 7/24 /09 - Stock Market Ideas

Somaxon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SOMX) - SOMX stock exploded Thursday on no news but recent insider buying is sparked a lot of interest. I will be watching this stock Friday for additional trading opportunities.

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) - ISRG had better then expected earnings Wednesday night and the stock surged on Thursday. I am looking to buy dips into the $190's.

Discovery Laboratories Inc. (DSCO) - This little stock broke out on heavy volume Thursday, worth watching for Friday

Ford Motor Co. (F) - After Ford released earnings this morning, I have put a 3 month price target on the stock at $8-$9 per share.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - Continue to watch HEB for an FDA decision on their drug Ampligen. An approval would send shares up big, a rejection would send shares tanking. I am waiting until after the decision to buy. If you are trading HEB, keep an eye on the 50 day moving average which should offer support - $2.21

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC stock took a nosedive back to support at $1.37 after the company sold more stock. Resistance is now located at $1.48-$1.50

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS finally broke out above $50 and is now running a bit. I am not going to chase FAS hear but would be willing to buy on any major dips. I also would buy FAZ for a trade when it breaks back above $40 or if it falls down to $35.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Waiting for Citigroup to break back over $3 before I buy. I also want to buy on a breakout above $3.20 as well. $2.60 is now a solid support level that must hold!

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation broke $12.40 on Wednesday and $12.48 on Thursday. I think it is time to start taking a long position. Pullbacks under $12 should now be bought heavily. The 200 day moving average is a great place located at $11.77.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG stock has broken $13 and is now showing signs of weakness. Support is now located at $12.44
