Stock Market Analysis 5/8/13 May 8, 2013 - Dow Jones Analysis

Stock Market 5/8/13 May 8, 2013 - Dow Jones Analysis

Dow Jones Resistance Levels - 15,200
Dow Jones Support Levels - 14,941

The Dow Jones and Stock Market have been on fire recently thanks to better economic data and the break out in the Nikkei.  While the Dow is above 15,000 right now, I don't see any major resistance until around 15,200.  On the downside, you might want to start taking profits in stocks if the Dow Jones closes below 14,941.  This is a major support level that must hold.  If 14,941 is broken, check back here because I will be doing additional stock market technical analysis.

Dow Jones Breaks 9000 Today - July 23, 2009

7/23/09 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average just broke through 9000 today and seems to be hovering here with no major profit taking. Keep an eye on the next important level of 9088 which is the 2009 high. If the Dow Jones can close over this level, we could be looking at another surge in which i'd be taking profits.

Nevertheless, given where we were in March, things have improved greatly!

Dow Jones Analysis 11/18/08 - Stock Market

Another weak day for the Dow Jones and the overall Stock Market today. Here is Dow Jones technical analysis for 11/18/08 ( November 18th, 2008 )

This is how I am trading stocks based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA) for tomorrow, 11/18/08. The level 8175 is key to me, so is 8000, so is 7965, and most importantly 7774.

Dow Jones Support and Resistance Levels for 11/18/08

The Dow Jones closed right near Thursday's close around 8275....100 points above the Oct 27th closing of 8175. It looks like we may retest the lows again and I don't think they will hold this time. I could be wrong, but will the buyers show up again at the lows for the 4th time? Ok, so if we break 8175 i'm out of everything and will watch....if we get some buying, I will quickly get back in. If the selling persists, I will get back out. If we take out 7965 that will be really bearish and I will look for 7800 to hold....if that doesn't hold, you could be looking at the Dow Jones testing 7000. One more final plunge this could really rattle things. Will Carter Worth be right about these lows holding? Will the Hogan bottom hold? These questions should be answered somewhat this week or next! Dow Jones Open 11/12/08 - Stock Market

Today, 11/12/08, The Stock Market and Dow Jones are opening lower but are boucning off their lows. The Dow Jones opened up around 8500, down 190, but has since bounced around 50 points to only down 140. It seems as though the bargain hunters are stepping in here. We've gone down 1000 points in the Dow Jones in the past week. Maybe its time we get a reversal?
The Nasdaq is down 20 and the SP 500 is down 14 to a fresh low of 885.

Interesting stocks to watch, First Solar ( FSLR ) has come back to $120...if you can break through the highs of the day, this stock could really run. It seems someone is liquidating because the market is bouncing without First Solar.

Dow Jones Open 11/11/08 - Stock Market Report

Today, 11/11/08, The Dow Jones and Stock Markets are opening lower as we are having follow through selling from yesterday's trading session. Stocks are attempting to bounce off their lows at 10am but there is a lot of selling out there. The Dow Jones is trading at 8635 down 235 points, the Nasdaq 1577 down 40, and the S&P 500 down 24 at 895. Make sure you read Art Cashin's comments on the stock market from this morning. Las Vegas Sands ( LVS ) stock is halted this morning as they have priced their common stock offering. Google ( GOOG ) is testing $300 a share.

Not much good news out there today, the Bond Market is closed for Veterans Day so there won't be huge volume in the stock market today.

Dow Jones Close 10/23/08 - Dow Jones Analysis, Vix

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was a roller coaster ride Thursday, 10/23/08, closing at 8692, UP 174 points. The stock market volatility was at its highest today as the Dow Jones was up around 220 points in the morning only to do a 360 turnaround to down 200 in the afternoon. That was a 400 point swing! At about 3pm eastern time stocks reversed once again and the Dow Jones rallied into the close. There was a rumor on the NYSE floor and from trading desks that the White House race between McCain and Obama has tightened, CNBC is reporting. The Nasdaq remained down 12 with the technology sector staying weak but reversing off the lows. Key stocks reversing on the Nasdaq were the four horseman, Apple (AAPL ), Google ( GOOG ), Amazon.com ( AMZN ), and Research in Motion ( RIMM ). RIMM went from $44 to $46.40 and I actually caught that ride upward and am now back into cash going into tomorrow. RIMM to me is very attractive under $45 per share.

Dow Jones Technical Analysis - 10/23/08

The Dow Jones was up around 200 points this morning....just giving that 8700 level a retest from yesterday as I was talking about. The Dow rejected that level and started to head
lower but has bounced off 8243 this afternoon. If we break through that on 10/24/08 you can pretty much bet we retest 8000 again. Remember the 10/10/08 intraday low was 7773 so if we break through Dow 8000 that level would be next support. If you are a long term investor riding this stock market out and we close below 7773....i'd suggest not looking at the stock market for several days. On a brighter note....we closed strong today back up near 8700. If we can close back over 8700 and really build a base there, eventually moving toward 9000, a case could be made that today's retest of the lows was successful....then we could actually start to move higher again. I almost forget what a rally feels like. I'm not talking about
these big moves higher...I'm talking about a long, slow, sustainable rally where the
volatility is low but we move up 50-100 points everyday....that is what we need right now to bring confidence back to the stock market. Don't forget Carter Worth's Bottom Call! Carter Worth has been spot on lately.

Jim Cramer on the Solar Stocks

Jim Cramer came on CNBC this afternoon and stated that he cannot own any of the solar stocks right now....he even called First solar ( FSLR ), Fourth Solar. Jim Cramer says stay away from Solar!!!

Volatility Index ( VIX ) - 10/23/08

The Vix spiked to around 79 today until 3pm hit and the market reversed to move higher. Since that time it hit 73...so a six point move. At noon the Vix was 65 and moved 14 points up to that 79 level. I say tomorrow we go into the 80's for sure. The Vix closed today at 69.50

Pre Market Trading - Stock Market 10/21/08 - Libor Rates, CAT, AAPL, Futures

Today, Tuesday, 10/21/08, The stock Market futures are pointing lower in pre market by about 100 points for the Dow Jones. This comes after a huge move up over 400 points on Monday.

European Markets 10/21/08 - European stock markets opened higher Tuesday following Asian gains overnight, as lower interbank lending rates fueled hope that credit markets are returning to normal. The Nikkei rose 3.3% last night.
The FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was 2.53 points higher, or 0.1 percent, higher at 4,285.20, while Germany's DAX was up 30.76 points, or 0.6 percent, at 4,865.77.

Caterpillar ( CAT ) - Cat just reported earnings this morning of $1.39 per share vs 1.41 expected. Caterpillar sees full year 2008 earnings of $6 and they reaffirm their full year 2008 outlook.

Libor Rates - Today, the Libor rates are below 4% for the first time in three weeks. This is a further signal that the credit markets are starting to thaw up a bit. Should be great news for the stock market going forward.

Stock to Watch 10/21/08 - (LINE ), Jim Cramer mentioned it on Mad Money CNBC last night. The stock was up over 12% to $16.25. Watch Apple ( AAPL ) today as they release earnings tonight. Key analyst Gene Munster said on Fast Money last night he expects AAPL to trade higher after earnings are released tonight. Apple is expected to report $1.11 per share.

EBS - New Top 2008 Stock this year - As of yesterday, ( EBS ) is the best performing stock this year for the first time.

Pre Market Trading - Stock Market 10/17/08

The stock market is set to open up pre market a lot lower today on Friday, 10/17/08. Investors are nervous about some key economic data due out including Housing Starts and Consumer Confidence.

Stocks to Watch 10-17-08:

Google ( GOOG ) - Google reported earnings of $4.92 Thursday, beating wall street estimates. The stock is set to open Fridays pre market at $388 after closing at $353 on Thursday. Pete Najarian on CNBC Fast Money last night said everyone is piling into Google GOOG right now, chasing after it. Najarian said that we will have another chance to buy Google, don't chase it! Early 2009 they will probably doubt Google once again, and if they miss earnings....it will get slammed. Add this to the fact that business in the beg of 2009 will be horrible combined with the technology slowdown....you will most likely get another chance to buy Google again.

Potash ( POT ) - Potash led all stocks yesterday at the end of the day with positive money flow. This is a positive sign going forward as Pot has just gotten beat up left and right. Potash reports earnings on 10/22 I believe, so keep this stock on your watch lists.

Warren Buffett - Warren Buffett is buying stocks for his personal account for the first time ever. He says that over the long term, this is one of the greatest opportunities you will get. " Be fearful when others are greedy, Be greedy when others are fearful" is Warren Buffets Motto.

Dow Jones trading range: Keep an eye on the current trading range of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. $9800 to $7800. You should be buying when we get closer to the bottom of the range....and selling stocks when you get closer to the high range. S&P 500 trading range - $1006 to $836

- Gilead Sciences Inc.'s (GILD) third-quarter net income rose 27% amid strong sales of HIV drugs. Results topped analysts' estimates, pushing shares up 3.9% in late trading

- Capital One Financial Corp. (COF) swung to a third-quarter profit as the bank and credit-card issuer saw higher deposits and increased profits in it local banking segment. Shares rose 3.7% in late trading.

- Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR) fell 9% pre market after reporting its net loss widened due to start-up costs at a new plant for the solar-panel maker.

Stock Market Reversal 10/06/08 - AAPL, MELI, GOOG

This afternoon, the Dow Jones reversed 500 points off its low in about an hour after hitting 9,525.

One of the first stocks to reverse on my watchlist was MercadoLibre ( MELI ) which started reversing well before everything else reversed.

Apple Computer ( AAPL ) showed the most strength for a large cap stock and Google ( GOOG ) was a laggard, still down more then 4% on the day.

Mastercard ( MA ) followed right behind Meli showing major strength.

The Dow Jones is set to close back over 10,000 at 10,015

Dow Jones Analysis 9/19/08 - Dow Jones Technical Analysis

Dow Jones - Technical Analysis - Today the dow will open at around 11280, or right between the 10 day and 50 day moving average. 11,400 is our first major level of resistance...if we can close above this level, most likely we will test 11867 which was the August high. If we break through this level, the bottom will be in at 10475. Jim Cramer, take note. Stop trying to call bottoms until they are made. Yesterdays close of 11019 acts as strong support given the gap up today. If this fails, back down we go!

Dow Jones analysis 9/02/08 - Dow Jones Average Technical Analysis

The Dow Jones closed at 11,543.55 on 8/29/08. It was a very low volume day and all of last week was very low on the volume due to the late summer months when most people go on vacation. The Dow opened just below 11,700 and sank all day.

Key Factors: McCain selecting Sarah Palin as the VP candidate, Dell Earnings, Hurricane Gustav and the impact it may have.

Dow Jones Technical Analysis:

The Dow has made a pretty nice base for itself around the 11,400 area over the past several weeks. Looking at the Dow Chart, we need to continue to hold the 10 day moving average on a closing basis which is currently at 11453. A close below this and more selling pressure will arrive. Technicians use this moving average to gauge overall market strength for the short term. Technicians use the 50 and 200 day moving averages for the long term.

Dow Support and Resistance: The Dow has support at 11,453 and 11,390. Resistance is 11715 and 11867. When we clear this you will not want to be caught short. A big move higher could follow for the Dow.

For the week of 9/2/08 - 9/05/08.....look for some bigger volume and watch these important levels described above. The volume will really come back 9/08/08 and beyond.

Dow Jones Technical Analysis 8/25/08 - Dow Jones Industrial Average Analysis August 25th, 2008

The last time I reported on the Dow we were around that key 11,400 level I talked about several times. Recently we have closed below and shot back up through this level. The low on the Dow last week was around 11,300 and I strongly believe this will hold. I am now looking for the Dow Jones to break an important resistance level of 11,698.

Keep an eye on resistance levels of 11,698 and 11,867. If we close above these levels it will be very bullish.

Dow Jones Technical Analysis 8/20/08 - Dow Jones Industrial Average Analysis August 20th, 2008

Yesterday ( 8/19 ) the DOW broke a key support of 11,400 on a closing basis. We will have to see what happens today ( 8/20 ). 11,400 on the DOW held several weeks ago and now has been violated. Look at the Dow Chart , It seems as though the next support levels are 11,200 and 11,125.

A break below these levels and we could go back to test the July 15th, 2008 lows of 10,827 on the Dow. Keep an eye on resistance levels of 11,698 and 11,867. If we close above these levels it will be very bullish.

For now you have to buy the dips and sell the rips....as we are still deep bear market. When we close above that 11,867 you might not want to sell the rips anymore but add on the dips. Closing above 11,867 level would be a nice trend reversal. and could be a signal that the July 15th lows are indeed the bottom.
