First Solar (FSLR) Stock Analysis 2013

First Solar (FSLR) Stock Analysis 5/7/13 May 7, 2013 -

First Solar (FSLR) will report earnings and guidance tonight and I expect the stock to be very volatile.  First Solar (FSLR) stock will have resistance on the upside at $50.20 and support on the downside at $41.  This is a wide range but options action ahead of earnings suggests a huge move tonight and tomorrow.

I'm not a big fan of FSLR over the long term but this is a trading stock.  Watch your support and resistance levels and the react to the long or short side.

First Solar FSLR to Build China Solar Plant

September 8, 2009 - Huge News out of First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) just released about 20 minutes ago. Besides the fact that FSLR is back over the 10 day moving average today, shares are soaring on the following news. Another reason why technical analysis can tip you off on when to get back into a stock. I added to my long position today and am very happy and well positioned.

First Solar to Team With Ordos City on Major Solar Power Plant in China Desert

First Solar today announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Chinese government to build a 2 gigawatt solar power plant in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, China.

Pursuant to the MOU, signed in the presence of Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, the solar project in Ordos will be built over a multi-year period. Phase 1 will be a 30 megawatt demonstration project that will begin construction by June 1, 2010 and be completed as soon thereafter as practicable. Phases 2, 3 and 4 will be 100 megawatts, 870 megawatts, and 1,000 megawatts. Phases 2 and 3 will be completed in 2014 and Phase 4 will be completed by 2019.

“This major commitment to solar power is a direct result of the progressive energy policies being adopted in China to create a sustainable, long-term market for solar and a low carbon future for China,” First Solar CEO Mike Ahearn said at the signing ceremony. “We’re proud to be announcing this precedent-setting project today. It represents an encouraging step forward toward the mass-scale deployment of solar power worldwide to help mitigate climate change concerns.”

The project will operate under a feed-in-tariff which will guarantee the pricing of electricity produced by the power plant over a long-term period. Full Article

My First Solar FSLR Stock Buy / Trade - Trading FSLR

June 13, 2009 - Thinking about trading First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) stock or investing for the long term? I have been thinking about it myself now that the stock as come down from a double topped high of around $205-$207 in May 2009.

From a technical point of view, you can see that First Solar recently broke support of around $160. This prompted another quick move down to $150. I originally thought $150 would hold but as the Dow Jones and overall stock market started falling, oil prices did so as well. When you have both of these things falling at once, traders tend to go after the solar stocks for a bear raid.

I'm thinking $140 could be the area where I will buy FSLR stock. But here is the trick, a trick that has been working for a long time with many stocks such as First Solar. I want to buy FSLR either for the long term or just a trade when the stock CLOSES over the 10 day moving average (blue line ). FSLR has not closed over this level in a month and the longer a stock such as First Solar stays below the 10 day, the bigger the move higher when it actually does.

My First Solar Trading Plan:

Buy half of the position on the first close over the 10 day moving average, if it fails to hold several days after, buy the other half on the next close over the 10 day moving average.

This is what I plan to do!!
