The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9172 on 7/31/09, as the stock market was choppy but remained mostly flat on the day. The Dow Jones Futures started the day lower after the GDP number ( -1.0 ) was released but bounced right after the open. Oil prices were down in the morning but broke out to the upside during the afternoon. Oil is actually playing catch-up from the latest stock market surge and could be getting ready to break out again! Next Friday we will receive the latest jobs report which will be a stock market mover! We will also receive a ton of energy earnings reports as well. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Monday.

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you can see, Libor Rates have changed today, July 31, 2009. The overnight libor went up while the 1& 3 month libor rates dropped.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones broke to a fresh 2009 high today but gave back a lot of gains during the final half hour. This is something to watch closely as we go into next week. I am bullish as long as the Dow can remain over 9000. Given the huge move today, a break below 9000 at any point would be very bearish and I'd be selling out of stocks. I am looking to load up again around 8700 which is the 50 day moving average

Stocks to Watch - 7/31 /09 - Stock Market Ideas

Georgia Gulf Corp. (GGC) - GGC stock was on fire Thursday as the company recently did a reverse split and then released the following news. Georgia Gulf Achieves Significant Financial Restructuring Milestones. GGC is worth keeping an eye on for trading opportunities.

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) - AMSC came out with outstanding earnings due to China beefing up their Wind Turbine industry. China's wind industry boosts American Superconductor. I will be watching AMSC on Friday for trading opportunities, resistance is located at $36.47 & $40. The volume is great as well!

Swine Flu Stocks: Swine Flu Stocks to watch: Vical Inc. (VICL) - Sinovac Biotech Ltd. (SVA) - BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (BCRX) - AVI Biopharma, Inc. (AVII) - Cannabis Science, Inc. (CBIS.OB) - Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - Novavax, Inc. (NVAX) - Inovio Biomedical Corporation (INO)

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - I continue to watch HEB as investors are waiting for an FDA decision on Ampligen. The reason I continue to list HEB day after day is because if the FDA does approve Ampligen, you could see an HGSI like move in the stock. If you are trading HEB, support is located at $2.20. Technically, HEB is starting to break down as it is trading below the 50 day moving average.

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - Waiting for CTIC to close above $1.50 and I will buy the stock which looks like it could happen Thursday yet.

First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) - FSLR reports after the bell Thursday, a great report could take FSLR back into the $200's while a so-so report will take it back to $140-$150 where I'd be a buyer.

Recent Stock Gainers: I am watching the following stocks because they could easily spike higher at any moment based on their recent trading activity. Sequenom Inc. (SQNM) - Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (JAZZ) - Discovery Laboratories Inc. (DSCO) - deCODE genetics Inc. (DCGN) - ACADIA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ACAD) - Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ARIA) -

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - Ok, we finally have some action in FAS and FAZ today. FAS broke $55 this morning and took off. I was wanting to buy FAZ when FAS broke $55 but hesitated due to the stock market breaking higher. VISA INC. (NYSE: V) & Mastercard Incorporated (MA) came out with better then expected earnings which helped FAS today.

At this point I think FAS could actually test $60 but the risk is to the downside given the huge run. I will be buying FAZ when FAS breaks down through the low on Thursday which was $54.56.

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup gapped up big Thursday and sold off all morning hitting a low of $3.03. This low of $3.03 now becomes a solid support level and I would be placing my stop loss order at $3.02. On the upside, if Citigroup can break through $3.37, I think it can trade up to $3.50-$3.60.

Bank of America Corp ( BAC ) - Bank of America Corporation broke $14 on Thursday which is very bullish. The next major resistance level I see if the 2009 high of $15.09. Pullbacks in the $12's should now be bought heavily.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG continues to hold strong and steady over $13....a break up through the resistance levels of $13.80 and $14 would be bullish....stop $12.99
