The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8612 on 6/15/09, as the stock market sold off on weaker then expected economic data and a buyers strike. The Dow Jones Futures started the day down 100 and this loss doubled throughout the day. Volume was very low so there wasn't any sign of panic selling but it was just one of those days were selling outweighed buying. Gold and Oil prices plunged as investors took profits but Natural Gas jumped on short covering. The volatility index ( VIX ) spiked 8% and traded back to 31. As far as stock market technicals go, I continue to remain bullish as long as the Dow Jones stays over 8500. Keep an eye on Housing Starts due out at 8:30am Tuesday morning. This could be a real market moving event! Check out some of the events I will be watching for Tuesday.

Baltic Dry Index Shipping Rates 6/15/09 BDI

The BDI data is critical for how the DryBulk Shipping Stocks such as DryShips Inc ( DRYS ), Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd( EXM ), Diana Shipping Inc ( DSX ), Genco Shipping & Trading Limited ( GNK ), TBS International Limited ( TBSI ), Navios Maritime ( NM ), Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. ( EGLE ), Paragon Shipping Inc. ( PRGN ), Star Bulk Carriers Corp. ( SBLK ), and OceanFreight Inc ( OCNF ) will trade during the day. As you probably know, the Dry Bulk Shipping index can tell you a lot about the state of the World Economy. When Bulk Shipping Rates are at all time highs, the World Economy is outstanding. It seems as though everyone is watching Libor rates these days. Today's Libor Rates for 6/15/09, are: 1 Month Libor Rate - 0.319%. & 3 Month Libor Rate - 0.614%. The overnight Libor rate is 0.261%. As you can see, Libor Rates have changed today, June 15, 2009. The 1 month and overnight libor rates went up while the 3 month libor rate went down.

Stock Market Futures

The Dow Jones closed at it's highest level in 6 months Friday and still remains over all three major moving averages. Support continues to be located at 8600 and then 8500. A close below 8500 and I would start to get cautious going forward just like the start of 2009. It can really go either way at this point since we've basically traded sideways all week!!

Stocks to Watch - 6/15/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Spongetech Delivery Systems, Inc. ( SPNG ) - SPNG had a roller coaster ride on Friday. Breaking $0.25 and running to $0.28 in the morning, then reversing and crashing below $0.20 all the way down to $0.08. Thirty minutes later, the stock was trading back at $0.16 again. This type of move has damaged the stock technically. Keep an eye on this stock for Monday but would be giving SPNG a few days to settle down. The company put this press release out at 2:40pm Friday afternoon:


SpongeTech(R) Delivery Systems, Inc., America's Cleaning Company(TM), (SPNG) is pleased to announced that the Company has secured approximately $6.4 million in new orders for the month of June to date. More and more retailers are beginning to order and carry various SpongeTech(R) products as the Company continues to nationally brand itself as America's Cleaning Company(TM). SpongeTech(R) products can be purchased is various retail outlets including drugstores, supermarkets, membership warehouse clubs, and big box stores


Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - Still waiting for an FDA decision on drug Ampligen. HEB stock is back over the 10 day moving average but has been fighting resistance at $3.


Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC sold off Friday on normal volume. Before the last major run above $2.00, $1.37 was the previous resistance level. $1.37 now becomes support and so far it held as CTIC hit a low of $1.38 on Friday. A break back above $1.47 could be good for a trade on Monday.


Capstone Turbine Corp. (CPST) - CPST is another stock to watch on Monday - so far it has been trading around $1.20 for most of the afternoon. I will wait for it to break through the high of the day on Monday before I get back in.


Sequenom Inc. (SQNM) - Keep an eye on SQNM shares Monday as the volume was very high on Friday. No news that I can find but any positive news out of this company will make shares jump hard.


E*TRADE Financial Corporation (ETFC) - Etrade stock was flying on Friday, if it breaks the $2.00 resistance level I will jump in for a trade. ETFC also has major resistance around $2.60 as well.


Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Direxion Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - FAS stock is looking very tired once again! Remains over $10 but can't seem to break the $10.80's. Keep an eye on $9.82, a break below that level on the FAS will force me to jump in FAZ for a trade.


Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock continues to be dead money after an exciting past 3 months. I am now looking to get long on a close above $3.70. Support is at $3.32-$3.34
