The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 7925 on 3/26/09, as the stock market extended the recent rally on better then expected earnings out of Conagra Foods ( CAG ) and Best Buy ( BBY ). There was also a successful debt offering which went better then yesterday. The Solar Stock sector was also a bright spot as China hinted in a conference that they might be interested in supporting local development of Solar Energy. The Dow Futures were higher in pre market and as stocks opened in the morning, they never looked back. The Nasdaq crossed 1575 and closed in positive territory for 2009. I am calling a Nasdaq stock market bottom today, but am still waiting for confirmation on the S&P and Dow Jones. At 3:30pm, Google ( GOOG ) came out with an announcement that they are cutting 200 sales and marketing positions. Shares of Google retraced back to the $350 level. Financial Bull ( FAS ) broke through the highs of the day at 3:40pm as the bank stocks spiked late. All in All, another great day on Wall Street all around!
Stocks rallied even as Citigroup ( C ) was weak, down more then 4%. A month ago a day like this from Citi would have caused the stock market to have trouble. On the bright side, Cell Therapeutics ( CTIC ) was up 175% on over 100 million shares traded.
