The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8178 on 7/8/09, as the stock market was down for most of the day on lower energy prices as well as the lack of buying before Alcoa ( AA ) earnings tonight. The Dow Jones Futures started the day slightly higher but the morning bounce faded which left the Dow Jones testing 8100 in the early afternoon. A 10 year treasury bond auction went well and briefly cause the stock market trade go back to even but stocks quickly traded back to their lows. Tonight the the new earnings season kicks off with Alcoa ( AA ) which is expected to lose $0.38 per share. This earnings report will set the stage for tomorrow.

Heavy buying in the last half hour of trading caused the stock market to close green which was led by technology and retail stocks. Check out some of the events I will be watching for Thursday.

Today, July 8 - 2009, Alcoa Inc. ( AA ) will be reporting earnings ( or lack there of ) due out after the bell at 4pm.

Revenue - 3.93 Billion - Estimate Range - 3.59 Billion - 4.11 Billion

Alcoa officially kicks off the new earnings season tonight and should have a big impact of the overall stock market.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) continues to go down with the overall stock market and the fact that the stock is technically weak. GE stock is approaching a few key support levels that should stop the recent stock slide and possibly produce a bounce. There is minor support at around $10.50 but the major support will be at the $10 level. If GE breaks through $10, look for a quick fall back to the low $9's. I would only be a buyer of GE shares when they close back above the 10 day moving average currently located at $11.50 but has been falling about $0.10 per trading day. I think we will know the coarse of the stock market by July 17, 2009. Whether we retest the lows or not, we will have an answer by the end of next week. As far as earnings go, I an discounting the earnings and focusing on the outlook.

The first stimulus package was part illusion and hope, we misused it, we may not be able to help ourselves now the we actually need it.

The Dow Jones has broken the neckline of a head and shoulders pattern and the trend is now down. All rallies back to the three major moving averages will now be sold and we will test the 8000 support level in my opinion. If 8000 does not hold, we could see a quick move down to 7800 before the big buyers step in. 7/7/09 was the first time the Dow Jones closed below 8250 since May. Stocks to Watch - 7/8/09 - Stock Market Ideas

Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ)
Daily Finan. Bull 3X Shs(ETF)(FAS) - On July 8, 2009 - FAS and FAZ will both have reverse splits. FAS stock will have a 1-5 reverse split ( if you have 100 shares of FAS, you will now have only 20 shares at 5 times the price which will be around $40-$42) and FAZ stock will have a 1-10 reverse split ( if you have 100 shares of FAZ, you will now only have 10 at 10 times the price which should be around $50-$52 per share).

Citigroup Inc (C:NYSE) - Citigroup stock continue to plummet with no bounce or signs of stabilization. Ciitigroup has support at $2.61 and then $2.40. If you have been wanting to jump into Citigroup but have held off, this might be a good time to take a shot but I would be putting a stop at around $2.59. If the stock market continue to correct, Citigroup will go down harder then most financials.

American Intl Group, Inc. (AIG) - AIG stock continues to plunge as well. AIG broke $15 like a hot knife through butter. There was absolutely no buying support there whatsoever! It might be a good idea to play AIG from the short side if you can borrow shares. The only way i'd buy AIG would be on a break back above $15 for a quick trade. Looking at the charts, the technicals are so bad that there is virtually no support until $10.

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) - General Electric (GE) stock broke the $11.25 low from two weeks ago and now seems to be headed into the $10's again. There is minor support at $11 but at $10 there is an even greater interest. I think it would be safe to wait for GE stock to close above the recent $12 resistance and then take a long position.

Continental Resources Inc. (CLR) - Today was the day that I started my non day trading position in Continental Resources. Since December 2008, I stopped holding stocks for the long term, and while we had a huge rally from March 2009 - June 2009, we are basically flat since I stopped holding long term positions. Why CLR? First, it is one of my favorite oil stocks in the stock market. It is also a buy out candidate if it continues to stay this low. Two weeks ago, Jim Cramer recommended it at $27 so at $22.61 where I bought, I couldn't go wrong. I am prepared to back up the truck under $20 as well. Watch the Video

First Solar (FSLR) - FSLR is the next stock I am ready to take a long position in. I'd be a buyer at $141 or below.

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (HEB) - Investors and traders continue to wait for the FDA decision on their CFS drug, Ampligen. The long delay is starting to get old! Management remains silent. ZzzzzZZzzzzZZZzZzZzZZz

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTIC) - CTIC is back into the $1.40's but has still managed to hold $1.37. I will be a buyer between $1.40-$1.42 if the stock gets there and i will be placing a stop at $1.36.
